Screw new bands, retro is where it's at! :)

Seriously, If you like Nirvana, you might wanna look around for some stuff by The Wipers or The Replacements, particularly the mid 80s stuff by both of them. Both were well ahead of their time.

Husker Du are worth checking too.

No way man, not for as long as new artists are being created from talent shows. I'll take real talent over manufactured crap any day of the week :D

It was happening just as much then as it is now. But now most of the money is made without the artist making any themselves.

The music is a lot worse now. Most bands that have come out in recent years are carbon copies of late 70s post punk. They honestly offer nothing new to me. It's been like that for years too. Most people raved about Nirvana in 90-91, I couldn't see what the fuss was about because i'd already heard The Mats/The Replacements.

It's down to what you hear first at the end of the day, and personal preference. I recommended my bands on Househippo's mention of Nirvana. :)

^^ There's plenty of new and exciting stuff out there if you're willing to look. Most of all in electronic music these days but not limited to it.

Electronic music, is something i really need to be in the mood for, although i wouldn't immediately dismiss it at all, i'd prefer ambient though. At the end of the day, music is something i listen to for entertainment purposes. And what i have is more than enough to keep me happy, if i want something different, I go back to the influences of bands i currently listen to.

To me, thats a lot more interesting than the carbon copies that are around as of late.

Well what did you listen to and what did you like?

I recommend Lykke Li, M83, Sigur Ros, Fever Ray and the new Placebo album Battle for the Sun.
