    Ah Mike, you can't begrudge the cold lovers some cold for a change. Look on the bright side and at the very least, the gas ain't going up in January.;)

    Still mild here. 4.4c. The Castlecomer Pleatau (Eastern Nore Valley) is the divide between the mild foggy muck and the frost. I am 5 miles too far west!

    According to the NRA, Portlaoise is 3.1c and Newbridge is -1.6c. That is a relatively short distance of say 25 miles or so, how come there is not a substantial rain belt seperating the two temperature profiles???

    :eek::eek:
    Frost set in here about 2 hours ago
    Currently +1.3c

    Amazing how we forget what temps we used to get in such a short time.

    Has been the most prolonged cold period i can remember. I suppose it's just passing by relatively unnoticed due to the lack of snow.

    The reason is mid to high level cloud preventing radiation cooling. While it's clear over towards the east coast, there is no blanket of cloud to keep the temp up.

    what I find interesting about this prolonged cold spell is that for the first 10 days of Dec, according to met.ie monthly climate data, is the avg temp has been 2.1 for Casement and 2.5 for Dublin Airport - almost 3 degrees below avg for Dec. This of course doesn't even take into account the freezing temps in the last few days of Nov including the record Nov low maximum for Dublin Airport of 0.7degrees on Nov 29th. I'm wondering do we have to go back 20 years since we've had such a continuous spell (fortnight) of average low temps. As someone else said, what doesn't make it seem that significant is the lack of snow but I've definitely seen more ice and frost this last while then in entire recent winters

    None here, dew point far too high. However above 600 metres i wouldnt be surprised to see snow as its been drizzling on and off most of the afternoon.

    2.8c here atm Max today (so far) of 4.3c - although this may go above this if and when rain arrives.

    Currently 2.1°C and falling slowly. Air very stagnent, was in Wicklow earlier and some of the housing estates looked smothered in their own chimney smoke, pretty gross actually, easily visible from a distance.
