Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Maybe planning to go to NY in summer 09 and im seriously considering the J1 programme as i am a current student. But im just wondering has anyone stayed in NY (or NJ) normally, like not on a J1, for 3 months? I know NY is expensive and the accomodation would be the big problem obviously.

Is there student housing available at a decent rate there? I know NYU do 150 dollars a week for non-NYU students to stay in their accomodation. Has anyone done this before?

Any feedback would be very grateful

did NY for J1 3 years ago. absolutely brilliant time. try and stay just outside Manhattan e.g. Queens or he Bronx. we stayed in a place called Woodside in Queens where trust me the majority of people stay. if you can get there ASAP as people try to get their place first thing. as for jobs they are there if you're willing to look about. try going up to doormen and ask who represents them and if they know about free jobs. there's also an Irish immigration centre in Woodside which will help you to the best of their ability and there's free internet (just donations). my best advice would be to get used to the routes of the subway as soon as you get there. just get out and have a look at buildings you've only seen on the tele.
