More than 100 jobs are also expected to be announced for Galway later this morning. The positions are expected to be created by a US computer firm, but details won't be announced until 11.30am.

Anyone got the scoop before the official announcement?

    It's just increased to 200!

    http://www.rte.ie/business/2008/1201/jobs.html

it was on radio news and:

    http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/breaking-news/ireland/business/60-new-jobs-announced-for-swords-in-north-dublin-14087651.html

earlier today as 100 new jobs...

Apparently in a new building/site - hopefully a bit out of town so it doesn't require it's employees to sit in traffic half the day.

Hopefully it doubles a few more times.

It's to be the Europen HQ so that limits it further - since plenty have established the European HQ already

indeed, that's what i was thinking, and they must have a pretty sizeable market share already to warrant that.

    More damp squib stuff!
    1. How many local jobs are to be provided?
    2. How many ex-pat jobs will be filled?
    3. When will the jobs come on stream?
    4. What sort of jobs are they?

These "announcements" far outweigh the enormity of job losses.

    *irony alert*
Will Fas be involved in training the high tch workers for these type of projects? They may be needing space cadets and classical piano players.:D

so, would you rather these jobs weren't created and for us to just wallow in self pity for the duration of the recession?

If you answer the little questions I will discuss with you.

The Independent says they will be based in the Mervue industrial estate.
A big part of the Nortel building is more or less empty. Or Abbott?

It's well served by buses on both the Tuam road and Monivea road - no need for anyone to drive.

I might have a sniff around myself as it suits my skills and experience and it would be nice to work for a private company that doesn't have to focus so much on each quarter.

There are people in the office working, about a dozen or so.

It is the tall building that was built for Nortel.
