    Hi there

Looks like DAB was officially launched this morning, i.e. what was technically a trial has come to an end and now all we have is a few RTE stations on the air and we're left with less stations today than yesterday.

So, my question is when will Phantom be back on DAB? :D

    Hi Aphex,

The commercial services (including Phantom) are no longer available because there is no DAB platform option for them to use. The trial was always going to be for a limited period only and this period has now expired.

RTE are in a different situation however - they can apply separately for a DAB platform licence and they have now simply exercised that option. It was hoped that participation in the trial from Phantom and the other commercial operators would have given time to formulate a digital radio development policy, but this has not been the case. In short, the temporary licence issued for DAB test purposes has expired and there is currently no long term option for the commercial operators to exercise.

There may be other short-term DAB options available in the future and we will consider any options as they arise.

Thank you for your interest in the meantime.

    Regards,

    Ger Roe.

Ger - could you explain why the station stings still mention that Phantom is available on digital when this is clearly not the case, as you outline above?

Hi, we are available on NTL/Chorus digital Channel 935. The term "digital" was being used to describe both DAB and digital cable and other means that may present itself as time goes by. We were for example, on the DTT trial earlier in the year.
