does anybody know what way the connections will work?

i know it is being talked of as a "facebook phone" so does this mean the constant updates and rss feeds etc will be via gprs and as a result will data charges not be high? excluding bundles etc

or can they be done on a pop3 style push basis and that way you can download the updates using wi-fi?

hope this makes sense and someone can help me out.. :)

    Thanks

Well I had been really looking forward to this phone but the slow processor and lack of 3d acceleration has killed it for me. Looking at the Samsung OmniaHD now. It hasn't got the physical keys but it looks like slaughters the N97 in every other respect I've heard about. If it can run most of my apps I'm sold, and Nokia sportstracker and Maps would be most appreciated.

Up to 48GB of storage too...nice.

Is it possible to get 3rd party sat nav software for Symbian S60 e.g. Garmin or TomTom.

You have to use an external GPS receiver on the N95 for that don't you?

Nope, it's built in on the 8gb model (don't know about the n95 plain) and it picks up a signal very fast for me, and holds it well.

    Feck no!!!!!

Exclusive for me to buy and keep for myself. There won't be too many people with the same phone as me is what I'm thinking! Was that way for a while with my N96 8GB. Now they're common as muck since they started doing them on contract here in Ireland

I cant wait until the n97 comes out to see if its worth upgrading to from my n95 but looking at http://www.expansys.ie/ there is gonna be a lot of competition. I had a look at a few phones there with the n97 in mind and there is very little difference on spec's(from what we know about the n07 so far)..

It's gonna be interesting. Hopefully it will lead to a price war on smart phones with touch interfaces.

IIRC it was advertised at about €850 a few weeks ago on expansys. I think it will continue to drop as it gets closer to the release date. Also, worth keeping in mind that expansys is very expensive.

Edit: Its available for €660 on amazon.de. Not sure if they'll post to Ireland, but it just goes to show that its available for cheaper elsewhere.

Considering that the 5800XM comes in at ~300, ie less than half the price, is the extra money really justifiable for the N97? I'm not completely up to speed on the N97's specs, I concede, but there isn't that much that it can have over the 5800 (8gb, touchscreen, gps, wifi - these are all pretty premium techs for a low-priced phone) - capacitive touchscreen, better camera, fancy graphics .. ?
It's a phone, with a tiny CMOS camera, it's going to take pretty rubbish pictures whatever the sensor.

    Let's see.. the 5800 has
Details are in, Nokia has a new flagship phone. The N97 packs a
    3.5 [3.2, I think]-inch,
    640 x 360 pixel [Check] (that's a 16:9 aspect ratio)
resistive [O RLY? I take back my capacitive statement. Resistive is pretty bad] touchscreen display with
    tactile feedback[Check] and
QWERTY keyboard[Check - onscreen in portrait and landscape. Definitely not as good as physical though] into this sliding communicator with an "always open" window to favorite internet or social networking sites. Nokia calls it the "world's most advanced mobile computer." To back up the claim they've dropped in
    HSDPA[Check],
    WiFi[Check], and
    Bluetooth radios[Check],
    A-GPS[Check],
    a 3.5-mm headjack[Check],
32GB[0GB onboard, comes with 8GB card which will go up to 16GB I believe] of onboard memory with microSD expansion (for up to 48GB total capacity), and
a battery capable of up to 1.5 days of continuous audio playback[Check]
or 4.5-hours video[Unsure about that, but the 5800 is reviewed as having outstanding battery life].
5 megapixel camera[3.2mpx, average to poor quality] with
    Carl Zeiss glass[Check] and
"DVD quality" video capture at 30fps[VGA 640x480, IIRC. Looks nice when paused, but it's damn shakey], too.
The specs are certainly impressive[For €300? Check], let's see if the
S60 5th Edition OS [Check - though that's not necessarily a good thing] can support it. The N97 will launch with a retail price set at around
€550 [...] ($693) excluding subsidies and taxes, phone to ship in H1 2009.
