Was just looking back over the Noc forum request thread, and this was one of the ideas we never implemented.

So I'm giving it a shot now.

    Ideas etc welcome.

Basically for those of us up overnight, if there's some news breaking which may be of interest, report it here (where there's the largest population of night time peoples on boards).

    Thats the theory anyway

Story for you all, hoping its the type of news story for the thread.:)
Ugandan police have released a warning about criminal gangs in the country that use women to lure men into sexual trysts to rob them after they are rendered unconscious with chloroform smeared on the women’s breasts.

Police say travelling businessmen, who tend to carry more cash, should be extra careful while in Uganda.

The victims were robbed of their belongings, including clothes, and found naked in an unconscious state. Most were unable to remember what happened after they became intimately involved with the women.

Uganda’s Criminal Investigations Directorate Fred Enanga said the gangs could be comprised of many members, and added that the source of the chemical sedative is unknown.

    Uh oh, another booby trap.

I was just reading that one. You don't expect 50 year old men from Carlow to be running international sex rings. The bastard is probably getting more action than me too

    What absolute scumbags.

    Why not?

Not being a smart-arse, but why would we assume that this wouldn't happen in Ireland? ... or that someone from Dublin or Carlow or any other rural town wouldn't be involved?

Personally, I'm cynical enough not to find this at all surprising.

Thankfully, I'm also idealistic enough to believe that the overwhelming majority of Irish people (and British people and Americans and Spanish and Japanese and Polish and Australians and whoever you care to mention) are well above this level.

Otherwise I doubt I would get up in the mornings.

Right, a few posts slung over to The Lair (including one of my own! :o )

We might see if we can keep this thread semi-serious / on-topic, at least, folks? ;):)

My comment above was a bit tongue in cheek. Just ask somebody what they think of a 50year old Carlow man and you get an image of a flat cap wearing, roll up smoking, diesel maroon coloured VW Jetta driving aul lad :p:p

Believe me I know a lot of what goes on in this country. Working late at night in Dublin City Centre really opens your eyes. I had one incident, that is not for public consumption, but after it things I see just fail to shock me

Jaysus. This should really be sorted in a modern Ireland.

Sure we had it in Galway 2 summers ago, massive problems, as far as I could figure out a lot of it was down to bad planning permissions further up the Corrib, contaminants getting into the river, and then the antiquated city water system not being able to deal!! >.<

And this was when we were still supposedly on the tiger's back!

There's currently one area of the city under a boil notice, but at least that's only due to old piping which needs replacing, afaik.

Ah, I knew you were being slightly satirical dude ... and I'm sure Nerin won't mind you describing his father like that! :pac:

I was more recording my regular puzzlement at peoples reaction when they hear about such things ... "couldn't be happening in OUR area!!" ... esp. in the rural / semi-rural areas.
