What would you buy?

Right, in time's of recession and cruumbling car market, when we would all love the have money to splash out on a car, what would you buy?

You have 40,000euros to spend all included. (Factor in discount etc.)
Further depriciation is a concern or yours, and running costs are slightly, but not majorly as it's a second car. You've been given this money solely to spend on a car (So no "i'll keep it" or any of that crap).

Simple - Handed €40,000 and told to buy a car, what do you buy?

I can't narrow my choice to less than 4 :P
I'm sure i could bargain this down towards to €40.
Lexus Ls430
Bmw M3
Audi S8

A8 4.2

I would definitely go for the M3, I really want one! Damn this not having enough money!!

EDIT: or a Z4M but getting one for 40k would be tough due to the damn vrt!

A fleet of small toyota aygo and play soccer with them and then later get my friend in Cussen Crane Hire to help me play conkers with them.

Id bring in an M5 from the uk

you can pick them up for around 15k sterling - ive even seen a 05 model 87k miles go for this on pistonheads

Vrt is €22k minimum though

1. Mercedes-Benz C126 500SEC (1988-1990),
2. Mercedes-Benz G300D, not sure which year.

id go for a lexus but if i only had that much cash i would only spend about 35k on the car ! rest would need to be saved for friggin tax !

No question u said a second car so here goes: porsche 911 turbo 1979 354 BHP:D:D:D:D:D cheap road tax clasic insurance an not affected by depreciation;). youd be mad to turn it away.

Id say with a bit of bargaining in the new year it may be possible to have an 06 base spec Porsche Cayman (2.7) in for near enough 40k

Seeing as I know the dealer and that cars been out there for quite some time it'd probably come in well under budget. Although I've just noticed it specifically says its the straight deal only price, so maybe not.

The actually point was to find it for sale, but sure tis grand:D I like some choices. Making me chance my mind, although i'd probably still go for the S8.

In your OP, you say further depreciation is a concern.... the S8 I'd say would be almost un-saleable again without giving it away... service bills would be pretty huge too I'd guess.

The 535d would be my pick - the one posted is an 05 at 40k but I've recently seen an 06 one which was sold shortly after it was marked down from 45k to 38k

ariel atom (i think you can just about get one for 40k)
or a Caterham. these cars depreciate very slowly

for that money, it's hard to see past importing an 08 2.0D BMW, say a 520D.
Will be 10k or so better off that the ones here, 150 to tax, so depreciation will be about the best you can do. Low fuel consumption to avoid the pumps and for the fun easily remapped to 220bhp for about €700.;)

You wouldn't even have to go near 40k to do it. Or you could give up on the sensible things and import an 07 530 or 330i or even a 335i for just about 40k.
