    Hi all,

Has to be a simple problem but I can't see the solution this one! Basically

    Eircom Broadband

Connected directly to the router with network cable

    ping www.boards.ie works fine...send 4 packets receive 4

open IE but can't go online

Try to get onto router at 192.168.1.254 but page cannot be displayed

Had Zonealarm on but uninstalled it

    Turned off windows firewall

    All IP settings are automatic

What on earth am I missing?!!

    Thanks!

Check IE settings under internet options, make sure you dont have a proxy selected under LAN. Do you have a internet or dsl light on the router you are using

Yeah Zonealarm can cause problems if not uninstalled correctly.

    Try repairing winsock: http://www.spychecker.com/program/winsockxpfix.html

    No proxy :-(

All lights working fine on the router...ping should prove that its just a firewall problem I thought?!

Downloading that now, I won't be able to try it until I get back to the problem pc on friday though

Just open Zonealarm and make sure its not blocking anything. The other option is to make sure not Zonealarm is running in Taskmanager.

Fairly certain it will solve your problem. Alternatively if you install ZA again things will work again. Had numerious problems with customer PC's and Zonealarm.

I uninstalled Zonealarm altogether as I narrowed it down to be the problem or so I thought, so I uninstalled it and still problems!

I try that winsock and re-installing zonealarm.

I'm not beside the pc so i'll do that when I'm at it again it sounds like thats the problem there though

    Thanks guys

Give your PCs LAN connection a fixed address, say 192.168.1.100
If you can get in using that you should be able to check the dhcp settings.

As you said, its got to be a simple problem.
