Have been trying to sell my car for months now and no joy, it seems impossible at the moment. Does anyone know of any dealers that would take in an '07 car so i could get a cheaper one instead?? Im a casualty of the recession and need the money!! :o

Highly unlikely, unless you have something particularly rare/special.

I'm afraid most dealers are in the same boat at present and will not entertain the idea. They simply don't want trade-ins.

If you have the advert for your car online then share it with us, we might be able to give you some constructive pointers that may help sell it.

I was reading the paper last week and there was an ad for Merlin Motors one of the guys was sayin that they really busy with people downgrading because of the recission give them a shout

Ye Merlin are very busy @ the moment, selling cars But @ a price and i do stress that, everybody has a price these days and it is very low, i Think if you advertise your car for about € 9,000-€ 9,500 and get somewere around there, 07 Clios will be Retailing in Garages for that in Jan i reckon. So get in there First and be the Cheapest,

    Best of Luck.

    Here's a problem.... they're cheaper to buy from a dealer! http://www.carzone.ie/search/results?nParam=200291+200299+4294911055&cacheBuster=1228305123552994#nParam=71+285+328+200291+200299+4294911055&sortby=Make|0

now look at this - http://www.carzone.ie/search/Renault/Clio/Authenti/200841190419684/advert
$10,900, €1,500 cheque back from the dealer and 2 year warranty too! so it's really only €9,400

I think you are asking too much for it.

Here are a few similar models with asking prices that are as cheap as yours from dealers who offer warranties:

    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=1141443
    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=1182373
    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=1182374
    http://www.driving.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=1218525

Given that they will probably give a further cash discount on them in a straight deal, this is what you are competing against. If you want to tempt a buyer away from a dealer then the price has to be considerably cheaper to allow for the additional risk of buying privately.

Rathdown Motors in Terenure also advertise for cars to buy so they may be interested in a trade down also. Here's the details http://www.rathdownmotors.ie/contentv3/index.cfm?fuseaction=page&pageID=9964

surely an 07 one (OP's) is still under warranty anyway ??

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Yep so really op can set price just a little under dealer. But going on the dealer ads, this car is only worth 9000.
Trading down with a garage will mean you will get less than this as they will screw you on the cheaper car you take off them. Best just to try to sell for 9000

One thing - the ad states '2 previous owners including me (female)'. Does this mean that you are the second owner? If so, just say 'two owners'. Or simply leave it out.:)

Renault only offer a 2 year warranty on new cars, the OP's car is 07 so potentially it may only have a month left on it. The minimum a dealer must offer is 3 months, on a 07 they would probably offer 6 months, minimum.

Buying from a dealer, you are buying some sort of security or comeback where as "caveat emptor" applies to a private sale, as soon as you drive away the car any issues become your problem. This should be reflected in the price of the car.

Put it this way, if you were buying a car like this, one in a garage and one from a private seller, both selling for the same price and both cars were in identical condition, which one would you buy?

Yeah i am the second owner, you are right though, its a bit confusing!

BTW, have changed price to €10k. Went to Merlin and they only offered 9k for a trade so may need to drop price again to 9,500
