Who's the fat Scottish dope on SSN? They wheel him out every transfer window and he goes on like he's the best friend of ever player in the league.

Kasper Schmeichel wants out on loan now apparently. Sounds good.

Kinda surpirsed Joe Hart is sticking around - i'd be handing in my transfer request if i was him.

Having established himself and performed very well, he is going to be second choice for the next 4 years or so. Given won't have signed to be second choice.

As I said in another thread (or maybe even this one), Hart was very, very lucky to be starting Premiership games at 20. He now has the opportunity to learn from one of the best. I likened it to the VDS/Foster situation.

    2 done and dusted.

    Jo on loan to Everton.

    Camara on loan to Stoke.

I like Jo as a player, Hughes is a fool for not playing him more often.
Stoke have a pretty decen attack with Fuller, Camara and Beattie now.

Also deadline has been extended. If there is email from 2 clubs saying in principal a deal is done. Also notice of the weather effecting the transfer and some board has to review this or some malark.

Sources close to Andrei Arshavin have said that the on-off transfer saga is "definitely off" and laid the blame at the door of Zenit St Petersburg and Arsenal.

"We're very disappointed. A deal has been worked on for nine months. First it was Tottenham last summer, now Arsenal," one of the sources said.

"What has been the problem with this deal? Money as always. The Russians are [unrealistic] and how can Arsenal offer less than £15m and half of Arshavin's contract?

"He's getting €3.875m and the club is offering half. Who would take another job for half the money? Arsenal have been making big waves by saying this would be the big historic transfer in the history of the Gunners. Well, it's bull.

"They thought they could pull this off by saying we are a big club, this is a nice country, all that stuff. But he's not a 16-year-old from Africa. The life in England is more expensive – a car, a house, it's all more expensive in London, and he has to bring his family. He has one kid who is three years old, another who is one year old. It's ridiculous."

Is the deal definitely over then? "Yes, I'm afraid so." Would Arshavin go to, say, Manchester City? "No." Chelsea maybe? "No. No other clubs."

With the transfer window about to close, it does seem unlikely Arshavin will sign, unless there is a considerable rethink from all the three parties involved, and the 27-year-old is thought to be heading for a private jet, having left the Hertfordshire hotel he had booked himself into in anticipation of a possible medical if the deal did happen.

There was, at least, some good news for Arsène Wenger, with Theo Walcott expected to make his return from a dislocated shoulder early next month.

"He has four weeks before he sees a specialist again and then he should get the green light," said Wenger of his winger who was injured while on international duty in November.

However, despite Cesc Fábregas's assertion over the weekend that his recovery from knee ligament damage was ahead of schedule, Wenger was less convinced. "Fábregas, I believe, will be six to eight weeks before playing," Wenger said. "I can understand his optimism, and we hope [he will be back quicker] but with a medial knee ligament you have to respect the time."

    Ouch!

fair enough, but Foster was playing regularly at Watford, this is the first season he has been on the bench for United (injured for too much of last season to stake any kind of claim). Only so much you can learn in training. Having proven himself and having been the number 1, I'm surprised he'd be willing to go back to the bench role for any long period of time. Maybe he is giving it to the summer to see what happens, maybe he has confidence in himself to keep his place, which is fair enough.

Rumour has it that Hughes spoke to Hart before doing the deal and Joe was ok with it. If that is the case then fair play to him.

He'll still play in the Uefa Cup anyway.

I thought the registration date would be the same as the CL - which is after the window closes, probably tomorrow.

I thought it was Feb 1st myself as Al posted above.

Whoops that was a copy and paste from the Uefa regulations PDF doc. Just done a quick google never checked the dates. I'll have another look, and see if I can find this years doc.

Yep. Exact same statement in this year regulations, with 08 replaced with 09. They have some lazy lawyers.

I would be surprised if that is actually the case, I reckon the regs were just not updated properly. I can't think with the deadline would be extended to Feb 2nd without the registration for the uefa cups being extended along with it.

Officially the English transfer window is sue to close at the same time i.e the end of the 31st. However because the FA won't pay people to work a Saturday or Sunday they moved it. I doubt UEFA give a sh*t about the FA moving its transfer dates.

Charles Insomnia to Wigan with Ryan Taylor going the other way. Good move by Newcastle, now Taylor won't be able to score screamers against them

Looks like Given can play in the Uefa Cup -
'I was delighted to get the move tied up, because of the UEFA deadline last night,' he added. 'I didn't want to be sat in the stand if City are going to be picking up the UEFA Cup later this season.'

    Lovely

City meet Rovers' asking price for RSC. Apparently there's a player going in the other direction but something can't be agree with that player.

My gut feeling is that the player going the other way is Sturridge and I'll be digusted if it is.

    Because you don't rate RSC?

    or you rate Sturridge?

    or both?

ya didn't actually think City would give you a day of peace.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,246 ✭✭✭Mgoraf

Yeh could very well be Sturridge. I'd much rather keep him than take RSC....

    Not particularly
    or you rate Sturridge?

    Massively.
ya didn't actually think City would give you a day of peace.

I was all set for bed about a half hour ago, and now I'm hearing that we may have put in a last minute bid for Toure :o

Shame indeed if it is Sturridge, Villa were linked with him all window. His contract is up in the summer, might he not just hang on at City til then?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,909 ✭✭✭✭Xavi6

The reason Sturridge hasn't been tied down with a new contract is because he thinks he's a big time Charlie and deserves to be on the big bucks. He's been told where to go with regard to that. Plenty of talent but not the best attitude.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 237 ✭✭YDMHSSB

how it goes down to the last 20-30 mins ill never know. surely if people need players they will try get them in as soon as they can. yes im sure some clubs want more money and others are after bargains, but its ridiculous.

RSC not joining city looks like.

Kevin Nolan, Ryan Taylor and looking like Micheal Johnson. All very good players and will really suit newcastle me thinks.

    Not sure.

Clubs can contact the fa and have deal go through if they can prive the weather delayed the deal. Considering a lot of flights were cancelled today I can see one or two things coming to light as the night passes on.

    I love the craziness.
