    Hey guys...

Thinking of changing to BT 24mb broadband however i wanna check what kind of speeds i will be getting, I know there are loads of threads on this but they all seem to say check your line stats!

    How do i do this?
And from the results how can i predict what my speed "could" be?

    Currently with Eircom

OPen the routers webadmin page (its the same as your gateway address) and login to the router then look for the stats page on the modem.

Best to post what router you have and who you are with now.

    No Probs.

Start Menu > Run > type: cmd

    then hit return

at the command prompt that opens type: ipconfig /all

In the output of this command look for an entry called default gateway, note its IP (if the default settings apply it should be 192.168.1.254, this is the IP of your modem on most networks)

Take this info and enter it into the address area on your browser and it will either open a page which is the home page of the modem or it will ask you for a user/password combination

    you want

    user: admin
    password: 1234

(these are the defaults but may have been changed

Follow on from here with link above

Where it says in point five to click Diagnostics instead click Statistics and I think you should find in there the connection stats for the modem, post them here and we can advise you.

You need to connect directly to the modem with an Ethernet cable, easiest and simplest way to do this.
