Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I don't know where this came from or what it was supposed to be.

Horrible gimmick, but jesus, they were violent as hell as The Sheepherders in the NWA! In the late 80s those guys KNEW how to blade!

Actually no, quite the opposite. Despite every attempt at burial by Vinnie Mac, he was over each and every time. The crowd never failed to cheer for him or get behind him from his entire time in the promotion from 89-91.

That's not a burial in my own honest opinion.

I know he got over by some miracle but the gimmick was a joke

Oh no question. Dusty was booking NWA who was stealilng viewers from Vince in the 80s, so when Dusty left over a dispute, he came crawling to Vince, Vince couldn't wait to stick it to him. He'd already done so by naming DiBiase's manservent after him.

It backfired horribly, and it wasn't by a Miracle. People in the mid and the south remembered Dusty and everything he did, there was no chance he was ever going to be booed. Even up north he was hugely over, listen to the reaction he gets in Philadelphia at Summerslam 89!

You can't kill a legend, you can try, but you'll fail miserably. Even Vince himself will admit it. He has no choice.

Dusty had been around too long and had done too much at that stage to be brought down that easy, to be fair he just rolled with it seemed to have fun and still got over, I'd love to have seen Vinces face

Exactly. Vince failed to see the concept of the term "booker". Dusty knew how to get anything a reaction, regardless of how bad it was. Vince was outmatches, and by the time 91 came around, he knew it which is why the polka dots stopped.

It was M-I-A along with General Rection (a play on Huge-E-Rection, Hugh Morrus), Major Gunns (a play on Tylene Buck's fake tits) and a couple of others.
Although Booker did use that in the indies several years beforehand.

Hah, Big Bully Busick! He didn't last pissing time! He was actually scheduled to be on the 1991 Survivor Series. He was the first guy Harvey Whippleman managed in the WWE, but Warlord took his place in the event.

loch ness as a gimmick started in stampede and was over there big time and he was over huge as haystacks everywhere in europe during the 1980s, they had huge matches between andre and haystacks in the 80s, i remember when haystacks used to do shows in mayo in the 80s and the place would be buzzing in anticipation. fast forward to 1996 and nobody in america wanted to see a washed up 650lb 48 year old who could barely move.

Yeah but after the Beaver Cleavage/Chaz period when Glen Ruth came back from injury, they turned heel again and ended up wearing massive cone bra's and stuff. They were dissolved around the time of Wrestlemania 16 i think, Ruth was first to be released and then Warrington followed a few months later.

He wasn't the worst Warrior clone in WCW, Jungle Jim was far worse.
Although Warrior only had one thing to say about that poor bastard when it was mentioned about him blowing his brains out in his shoot interview:

    Warrior: "Bwahahahahah!"

I don't recall that happening, that's what they wanted Bret to do when the idea was presented to him ten years earlier.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,492 ✭✭✭EdK

Could you imagine how different Bret's career could have turned out if he had gone with it, the options were basically create yourself a gimmick or we will do it for you, And you didnt want option B as indicated by this thread haha

Bret, to his credit knew there was no hope in hell that was going to work, unlike the likes of Jake and the Bulldogs who had to carry their pets around with them the whole time, even to the hotel rooms. What the f*ck was Bret gonna do with a horse?!

Nah, not really, that was more of a skit than a gimmick.
One which nearly got the WWE into a rakeload of trouble as they went too far with it and it's allegations about Turner that Turner Broadcasting ended up filing a cease and desist order against Vince McMahon.
