minor road signs

whats the story with all the signs going up showing the number of every minor road/boreen in the bandon area at least at the minute? Has the council got some kind of surplus to squander before the end of the year or what?

they have also been putting numbers on bridges. dunno what the idea behind that is

I've only ever seen dedicated local road no. sinage in touristy areas to help em read road maps-perhaps Bandon is a bit of a tourist town??
