Heading off on a very long drive shortly got me thinking about a good driving soundtrack to compile to keep me awake, all contributions considered, the louder the better and links to Youtube etc. would be greatly appreciated.

I think heading south east of Ireland could be the answer. Could be wrong.

Getting your hands on some Girl Talk would be a step in the right direction. It's one man who takes classic songs and puts hip-hop (generally) over it, making something pretty unique. All his songs are seamless, each of them running into eachother over an album, so time spent on a long journey will fly.

Here's an example of what he does:

And here's how he does it:

Edit, a personal favourite, albeit a little bit older:

Not when your Ipod has some crap music on it and you've no cable to take it off :P I wouldn't mind a good drive.

@qz : Can't say that music would appeal to me at all at all. But each to their own

i did a road trip across america a couple of summers ago, plently of the eagles (life in the fast lane), born to be wild, tons more just cant remeber at the minute, (though most of them seem more suited to a trip across america rather than france?!) :pac:

And how could I forget, plenty of Creedence Clearwater Revival!

    Music - it depends.

Queen one day, U2 another. Maybe some Depeche Mode or another mood might require some Harry Chapin or Nanci Griffith. I could take a liking to some Big Country, AC/DC, Thin Lizzy, Bon Jovi, Guns n Roses - the list is endless. Basically, for me, it depends on mood and what I want to listen to. That's why having the iPod on board is essential.

Tom Waits, ELO, Thin Lizzy, Rory Gallagher, The Dubliners, The Wolfetones, Bob Dylan, Dire Straits, Seasick Steve, Razorlight, Eric Clapton, Christy Moore, Gypsy Kings. To name a few!

"Born Slippy" (long version) by Underworld
"Toca's Miracle" (old version) by Fragma
    "99 Problems" by Jay-Z
    "Toy Soldier" by Britney Spears
"Shut Up & Drive" by Rihanna is an obvious choice.

Might not be quite to your liking, but its worth a shot.
Each one of the songs is pretty different, style wise.
    1st: Hard rock.
    2nd: Heavey metal.
3rd: Hard to call IMO, starts out really light and "spanishy"(forgive me for that) and gets faster, ends like the start.
Either way, its my favourite of the bunch.
Hope ya like them, i think they're great to have on in the car.

He Is Legend - The Seduction

He Is Legend - I Am Holywood

He Is Legend - Dinner With A Gypsy

Guys, really there is only one band we should be listening to for driving.

As for The Resurrection - the second half of this track (from about 3:25) is as good as it gets me thinks.

All I can say is don't (ever) listen to a live gig as poor Ian Brown really can't sing all that well when he's excited.

Radar Love - Golden Earring (long version)

    Born to Run - Bruce
    The Chain - Fleetwood Mac

I'll add more as I think of them..........
