if i turn on wifi and then surf the net, my iphone still uses the 3g to access data, the only way i can get it to use the wifi is if i put airplane mode on, so its only choice is to use wifi..but then i usually forget to turn airplane mode off after!

    any help?

    thanks!

Are you connected to a Wifi Hotspot or a Wireless Access Point at the time? And did you unlock / jailbreak etc?

Your iPhone chooses wifi over 3G *always* when the former is turned on. That is the default setting.

Why do you imagine it is doing otherwise?

In any case, instead of turning on "airplane" mode all you have to do is turn 3G off, choosing 2G instead.

    WEP, WPA or unprotected hotspot?

If you go into the Wifi and tap on the blue ball beside the checked hotspot, what IP information are you seeing?
