Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

our boiler is making considerable noise recently. we had a guy in to service it and he said that it was kettling the water. the water is not getting away from the boiler quick enough. the original installation plumber never installed a inhibitor.( or something to that effect.

    is this a possible fault?

also how much roughly will it cost to install one as the original instrallation plumber refuses to do it as he has not got paid from the builder of the house.

Inhibitor is a chemical that is added to system water to stop the water from attacking radiators and over time creating sludge, if you look at the fernox site or sentinel site you will find out more about the chemicals which can be got from heat merchants or any DIY store, the chemicals cost about 40 -60 euros.
As you had no inhibitor added at the start to protect from the build up of sludge you have now developed a blockage in your heat exchanger which as you said is slowing down the flow of water in the heat exchanger so it over heats the water, generating the noise, i would advise a power flush as this is the only way to attack the whole problem so that you can start again, but it may not clear the heat exchanger so you may have to take it out and put it into a bath of chemical or replace the heat exchanger, the flush could cost around 500 euro but prices differ so get a few quotes, you do have other choices you could add a cleanser to your heating water and leave it for a few days then drain it out again with the hope of drawing out all the sludge, this could be enough it will depend on how contaminated your system water is, but you would probably still have to deal with the heat exchanger separately, Gary
