Hi folks, first off my pings are fine , my download speeds are fine.
The problem im having is random disconnects on eircom broadband forcing me to power off my modem and power back on it.
Im also noticing it takes a lot longer than before to sync up and sometimes it doesnt sync up at all and i have to power off/on again.
As i say my pings and speeds are perfect.
Ive tried 2 different modems and still the same issue.

It happens any time of day so its not just a peak time issue.
    Any thoughts folks?

this is happening to me too and from chatting to people the last few weeks it seems to be very common.

I doubt there is a solution just eircom being pants....

It's been happening to me too but I don't have to reset the modem.

Most of the time my internet is working fine but applications that rely on the internet get disconnected. I'm with BT

    Happening here too.

Yep, I wasted 3 days of my life trying to sort this with eircom, its still not fully resolved. I'll be having words with the account manager tomorrow..

There seems to be some break down in the PPPoE session and won't authenticate for some time after it stops. The CHAP authentication keeps failing

Ive been having Awsome Disconnects all over the shop (but it was connecting at 3meg with 384 up..) i seem to have been upgraded to 7.8 meg... Here is the end result

    369561717.png

Router Page is attached. Eircom has told me that it should be fixed if i downgrade.... what sort of answer is that ????

Line stats anyone? Disconnects often a sign of poor snr.

Well Ders your problam [/southern U.S accent].
Your line is not capable of what package you are on. Those stats are of a stable 2mbit and not much more. Try plugging everything connected to the phoneline out (sky boxes, phones, xboxs etc.) and plugging the modem into the main socket where the phoneline comes into your house, hopefully there is a line stat change for the better.

Problems like this are very common but the vast majority disconnection problems are to do with poor lines to your house aswell as internal wireing and not much can be done about it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 347 ✭✭Irlbo

Just a guess, but Id rather the house's you live in are verly old, therefore the lines are very old and through the years have inherited little scrathes and and glitches which is affecting bb connectivety, theres very little can be doen, unless your willing fork out 121 euro for a new line?

Yeah have the same problem here..have always being getting random disconnects for the last few months..maybe 3-5 a day..its not a real problem when your just surfing the internet but in games you have to exit then go back in again when the connection finally syncs back up..which takes a good while to finally get running again..

just had a look at my line stats and this is what im getting
    Item Downstream Upstream Unit

    SNR Margin 14 14 dB

    Line Attenuation 30 19 dB

    Data Rate 3072 384 kbps

can anyone tell me if my line stats are maybe the cause of the problem?

  • Moderators, Technology & Internet Moderators Posts: 12,448 Mod ✭✭✭✭dub45

Those stats are not bad so worth having a look at your internal wiring to see if you can improve things. Have you much stuff connected to the phone line?

Are you using a wireless network?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,366 ✭✭✭Star Bingo

    - the conn. drop i've bn having it only very recently... wireless - a good notice is MSN Messenger signs in by itself. will try a few things, maybe reset the router - just another victim.

    Good News :)

Called up BB support again, finally got someone who knew what he was talking about, explained my situation (that i need to work from home and connect back to the VPN in the UK) he dropped my line to 1meg seen no errors, then to 2meg again seen no errors, 3meg seen no errors and then to 4 where it started to become a bit unstable, top notch bloke tbh and he has logged a call with an engineer because he says that my line should be able to take the 7.8meg based on distance (2.4km apparently ?? How do they know that ? ) and the fact that the line was replaced only 3 years ago.

Looks to me like he did a whole lot of nothing and your line has intermittent interference, basically when you rang him your line was better than when you done that previous test and apart from trying different speeds he done nothing. I would keep checking on those stats and see does it change at different times of day.

    How are these stats?

Max Allowed Speed (kbps) 3072 384
    SN Margin (dB) 16.50 15.00
    Line Attenuation (dB) 16.50 11.00

Im on eircom broadband about 3-4 years now so its not a bad quality line thats the issue.

Your line looks perfect there but things can effect your line quality sometimes and then other times not show up. Having broadband for any period has little relevance to new problems arising that disimprove the quality of your line.

Is there any pattern to your disconnects? If it usually happens at a certain time it could be something like street lights along the path of your line turned on.
