Lads. Favourite tracks and albums of 2010? Didn't buy/acquire many albums but really like those that I did. Straight copy and paste of what I wrote elsewhere:

Arcade Fire – The Suburbs. Bit late to the party on this one but it’s fantastic. Best tracks: Empty Room, Ready to Start.

Grinderman – Grinderman 2. Like the above album this took two listens to fully appreciate. Nick Cave rarely lets me down. Best tracks: Palaces of Montezuma, Bellringer Blues, Worm Tamer.

Black Francis – The Golem. Paid 70euro for this album, worth it. Basically it's a soundtrack for an ancient German film, recalling the likes of The ‘Stones, Tom Waits, Pixies and Neil Young. Best tracks: Bad News, You’re Gonna Pay, Miriam & Florian, Obedient Servant.

Beach House – Teen Dream. Incredibly hard to describe their sound but it's amazing. Best tracks: Silver Soul, Norway.

Black Francis – Nonstoperotic: Not as good as The Golem but this is more Pixies-ish. Best tracks: When I Go Down On You, Wild Son, Six Legged Man.

    Tracks:
**** You – Cee Lo Green.

Norway – Beach House. I’ve played this song an awful lot. It's just glorious.

Bad News – Black Francis. I first heard this tune two years ago when it leaked but it’s lost none of its power. One of my favourite songs of his.

Crash Years – The New Pornographers. I adore this song. Neko Case and that wonderful whistling. <3

AF's Empty Room would definitely be amongst those had I known it a little longer. Haven't listened to High Violet yet either which might explain the absence of anything by The National.

    Mine would be...

    Grinderman 2 - Grinderman
A great album from beginning to end filled with sleazy sounding guitars and lyrics. Best tracks: Mickey Mouse & the Goodbye Man, Worm Tamer, When My Baby Comes, Palaces of Montezuma.

This is the Second Album of a Band Called Adebisi Shank - Adebisi Shank
Adebisi Shank are one of my favourite Irish bands. Their first album was a strong release but I think this one topped it. It's full of awesome luscious soundscapes. Best tracks: Masa, Micromachines, Genki Shank. The rest are awesome too though. :p

We Were Exploding Anyway - 65daysofstatic
A lot more emphasis on the dance aesthetic of their music in this album but this doesn't make it suffer. It actually enhances the album creating some really memorable songs. This album was pretty much the soundtrack to 2010 for me. I was constantly listening to it. Best Tracks: Mountainhead, Crash Tactics, Weak4.

Road Salt One - Pain of Salvation
It took me a while to get into but when I did I enjoyed it immensely. I've never really listened to Pain of Salvation's earlier stuff so I can't really make a comparison there. I did really enjoy this album however. Best Tracks: Linoleum, Road Salt and Tell Me You Don't know.

    Other great albums:
Chariot - The Cast of Cheers (Free album)
The Letters EP - And So I Watch You From Afar
Snakes for the Divine - High on Fire
Man on the Moon: The Legend of Mr. Rager - Kid Cudi (One that I hope isn't forgotten after the release of Kanye's acclaimed album)
    Diamond Eyes - Deftones
The Wild Hunt - The Tallest Man on Earth
    Best Tracks:

Barbra Streisand - Duck Sauce. You gotta love it. :D

    Masa - Adebisi Shank

Snakes For the Divine - High On Fire

K is for Killing Spree (Ode to) - And So I watch You From Afar

    PX3 - 65daysofstatic

    REVOFEV -Kid Cudi

    Nausea - Trophy Scars

King of Spain - The Tallest Man on Earth

I think that's all the things I enjoyed most this year. :) There's plenty of stuff I haven't listened to, like High Violet and stuff.

^^ Think this is a great idea Monzo! I'll go ahead and list my favourites for 2010, purely 'cause I know it'll take ages but hey its an excuse to listen to some good music from this year. I mixed up the my favourite albums and tracks because my favourite song usually came from a good album as well.

Arcade Fire - The Suburbs. 5 stars, not much more I can say about it that hasn't been said already. Sprawl II: major contender for song of the year imo.

The National - High Violet. Album of the Year? Very few come close. Just magnificent. Arrgh picking my favourite song is so difficult, at the moment it's England... no Afraid of Everyone... no Conversation 16. I'll just put that here now and move on before I change it loads more times.

Janelle Monáe - The ArchAndroid. Not what I'd normally listen to but and amazing album nevertheless

Yeasayer - Odd Blood. Some absolutely great tracks on this album. I went off them for a while after reading a few interviews with them and they came across as really pretentious and got slated in an article about their crap attitude. But just focusing on the music there's some catchy tunes on the album: O.N.E, Rome, Ambling Alp and Madder Red:

Marina and the Diamonds - The Family Jewel and
Robyn - Body Talk Both deserve a mention for giving us some of the better pop music for the year. I listened to Marina's album a lot and was disappointed when I missed her gig in Cork, it was supposed to be brilliant.

Foals - Total Life Forever. I probaly listened to this album more than any others this year, it was released early enough in the year so I would always go back to it if I wasn't in the mood for anything new. Loved This Orient and Spanish Sahara.

Jonsí - Go was one of the highlights of the year for me, could not stop listening to it. Animal Arithmetic so upbeat and brilliant:

My favourite finds of 2010 would definitely have to be:

The Tallest Man On Earth - The Wild Hunt.
    Two Door Cinema Club
    Fang Island

And the magnificent James Vincent McMorrow
Makes me weak at the knees, a sign of a true man-crush

Anywho that's most of what I can think of, just writing this out was pretty enjoyable. And now to look at the others' posts and find new music I missed from this year :D

I'm not gonna list albums - haven't listened to enough. 2010 brought so many great tracks though, and I have much more to listen to. I'll narrow it down to ten picks from the year; these are in no particular order.

    M.I.A. - Born Free
    Interpol - Try It On
    Janelle Monaé - Cold War
These New Puritans - Three Thousand
Arcade Fire - Ready to Start
    Cathy Davey - Little Red
    Sleigh Bells - Tell Em
School of Seven Bells - ILU
    Chief - Night and Day
Lady Gaga - Telephone (because we all need some pop relief! :pac:)

Some of the albums I liked this year:

Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Before Today

    Beach House - Teen Dream

Big Boi - Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty

    Caribou - Swim

    Delphic - Acolyte

Four Tet - There Is Love In You

    Janelle Monae - The ArchAndroid

John Legend & The Roots - Wake Up!

    Surfer Blood - Astro Coast

The Roots - How I Got Over

Hope that wasn't too long a post!

My Best of 2010 list on 8tracks pretty much sums up my opinions of the year:
    http://8tracks.com/eranmane/twenty-ten

But let me go into detail a bit there. Track by track. The albums are in no particular order

    1. Kanye West - Dark Fantasy
Kanye West's 2010 offering is unreal. It's mad, it's crazy, it's dark, it's twisted, it's Kanye West's fantasy, and although it isn't beautiful, it's a damn good rap album.

    2. Broken Bells - October
2010 was a great year for Danger Mouse. Working on this album and on the amazing Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse album, it shows that this great producer has much ahead of him. Currently working on the new U2 album. Who knows, he might just save them.

    3. Sleigh Bells - Crown on The Ground
    AWESOME

    4. The Black Keys - Next Girl
My brother gave me "Brothers". Both that brother and "Brothers" are great. Brothers of course being one of the best albums I've heard this year.

    5. Foals - After Glow
Total Life Forever marked a change of pace for Foals. I mean, a serious change of pace. But they went in all the right directions. Their new album? Damn near perfect.

    6. Delphic - This Momentary
This Momentary was always going to be one of my favourite songs of the year. But the rest of their debut album "Alcoyte" did take some time to grow on me. But damn, it did. Great album.

    7. Hans Zimmer - Mombasa
Film soundtrack? In MY Best of 2010 list? Zimmer's score for Inception has some of the most moving music I've seen\heard in a while. Great film. Great soundtrack.

    8. Two Door Cinema Club - What You Know
Are Two Door Cinema Club the saviours of pop music? No, they're copying Phoenix.
Are Two Door Cinema Club doing a good job of copying Phoenix? Surprisingly yes. In fact, their album is just as good as Phoenix's.
    (still copying them though)

    9. Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
This is one of two songs that doesn't represent one of the best albums of 2010. This song represents one of the best SONGS of 2010, and maybe one of the best albums of 2011? ;)

    10. Arcade Fire - Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)
    No introduction required.

    11. The National - Conversation 16
The National were afraid they'd eat my brains, because they're evil.
They probably did, because this album is good. Very good. It's the only album I've bought.

    12. Beach House - Ten Mile Stereo
Beautiful song. Beautiful album. Beautiful. (learn from this Kanye, this is beautiful, your album is not)

    13. Joanna Newsom - Good Intentions Paving Company
Everyone who's heard this song and this album rate it highly in Best of 2010 lists. Listen to it. Find out why.

    14. The Chemical Brothers - Swoon
"Just remember, to fall in love. There's nothing else. There's nothing else." The Chemical Brothers may created a simply perfect dance album. "Swoon" might show you why I think so.

    15. wait what - Mo' Stars, Mo' Problems (The Notorious XX)
DJ wait what blends The XX and The Notorious B.I.G in one of the greatest mixtapes ever. Listen to it.

    DID I LEAVE ANYTHING OUT?
    Of course.
One I forgot to put in the 8tracks mix is Laura Marling's lovely, lovely second album.

The Coronas - San Diego Song....... Epicccccccccccccc

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,248 ✭✭✭Slow Show

This sounds like a good idea, I'm gonna do what Colm did and do my top 15 or so songs and work with that, because I haven't really listened to a huge amount of full albums this year, mostly I've been listening to stuff from the last few years and beyond.

    1. Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
I think Namlub posted this song here a few months back, and since then I've loved it, and then loved it more. It's so addictive and one of my favourite songs ever I think. Thanks Namlub. :) And I urge everyone to go listen!

    2. The National - Bloodbuzz Ohio/ Runaway/ England/ Afraid of Everyone/ Conversation 16....it's so hard to pick a favourite from High Violet, I like every song, but there's my top five anyway.

    3. Arcade Fire - Ready To Start/Sprawl II, Rococo, The Suburbs...another album with me liking every track (Hey, I actually like Sprawl I), those are the ones I've listened to most though

    4. Vampire Weekend - Giving Up The Gun - not a massive fan of Vampire Weekend, but this song...love it.

    5. Beach House - Norway...haven't had a chance to actually get into Beach House, but this song definitely stands out.

    6. Two Door Cinema Club - Undercover Marytn/Something Good Can Work/Eat That Up, It's Good For You. I'm not sure if they are copying Phoenix, there are definitely some (ok, a lot) of similiarities. But in the end, I prefer Tourist History to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, and I love all of the TDCC songs I've heard, even if they are a bit samey. Top artist on my last.fm actually.

    7. Kanye West - All of the Lights/Dark Fantasy/Monster ... I don't like rap much, or Kanye at all, but his new album is just something else...

    8. Eminem - Not Afraid/Space Bound/Almost Famous ...not a huge Eminem fan anymore, but I was fairly addicted over the summer and actually bought his album, and most of it was pretty good. Those three tracks in particular did it for me.

    9. Villagers - Becoming A Jackal/Ship Of Promises...another group I'm just getting into. Two stand-out tracks there for me, and a few more listens of the album and I'll surely find more.

    10. Regina Spektor - No Surprises. Yes, it's a cover, released for charity but it still makes the list. One of my favourite artists covering one of my favourite songs...what's not to love?

    11. Warpaint - Undertow...great, great song. A bit iffy about the album so far, but great song!

    12. Sufjan Stevens - I Walked. I didn't expect to like Sufjan's new album after hearing it was different, as I love regular Sufjan, but I actually love it. Still haven't got through that behemoth of a last track, but I'm getting there.

    13. Brandon Flowers - Only The Young. What a song, what a video...and the album's quite good too.

    14. Yeasayer - O.N.E. Another group I need to listen to more, but after being recommended that song countless times, it's pretty good!

    15. The Drums - Down By The Water...and most songs from their self-titled debut album. Copying The Cure, apparently...well, they must be doing a good job too. Heh, I'm not too picky.

    Good year. :)

Do you mean to say there are people out there who don't like that track?! Can't remember the lyrics but the actual music is gorgeous.

Also, I'd have also included the King of Spain had I remembered. Righteous song.

Very good choice slow show/ Emma! When I get around to making a list I can see a lot of those being on mine!:) Brandon Flower, Arcade Fire, TDCC, The Drums, Vampire Weekend etc. etc.

Janelle Monáe is teh awesome! First act I saw at Electric Picnic, and one of the highlights of the whole weekend. Pity her set wasn't longer. (and that I missed her performance in the Body & Soul tent)

I forgot to add Interpol and Jimmy Eat World to my list, great albums from both this year.
And yeah, there seemed to be a general consensus that Sprawl I was the weakest track on the album but I really liked it.

Right here we go (I am so gonna mess this up), This could take me froever so I'm just gonna start throwing down some bands/tracks and any comments that I cna think of making.

May aswell start with Arcade Fire and The Suburbs. It was the first one of their albums that I listened to in full and it was amazing, pretty much every track on there.

Followed by The National. I havn't really listened to a whole album yet but what I've listened to I've loved straight away. They sound just like my cup of tea.

Mumford and Sons were basically my addiction during the summer. Ever since Little Lion Man hooked me the very first time I heard it I havn't looked back since. I could probably sing nearly all of the tracks on the album word for word by now.

The Drums surprised me actually. I liked Let's go Surfing from the beginning but I was a bit iffy on the other tracks until I got to Down by the Water, I felt like I was in heven listening to it.

Again, like everyone else I'm gonna say Foster the People and Pumped Up Kicks. I don't know where I'd be for music if it hadn't been for this thread and ye guys/gals.

Two Door Cinema Club. Who cares if they're copying another band, they're doung a fairly good job of it. Another band that got me hooked, whether it be SGCW, Undercover Martyn or I can Talk.

Like Emma, I'm gonna say Brandon Flowers' album. The Killers have to be one of my favourite bands ever so when the frontman goes olo, it can only mean one thing. Absoloutely love Only the Young and Welcome o Fabulous Las Vegas.

The Temper Trap. Sweet Disposition really got me and I thought I was just onto a one-hit wonder kinda band but then Fadrer was used on an ad and I had to listen to the full album.

It wouldn't be a good list without a bitta Muse in there. Yeah The Resistance is technically 2009 but I was a slow starter into the whole Muse thing. And when you take away the whole Twilight icky stuff from Neutron Star Collision, it's a pretty good song.

Biffy Clyro and Only Revolutions, again on a technicality 2009. But it only really hit the high life in 2010. I only stumbled across them accidentally on a music channel when I saw a video where they were dressed a pirates or something. Really good somgs that I've become really fond of though, God and Satan, Many of Horror, The Captain, Bubbles.

B.o.B. I didn't think that this'd be my usually style but hey. When you get rapping with some singing thrown in it's a win(just like Eminem and Rihanna with Love The Way You Lie)Nothing on You isn't my favourite but Airplanes and Magic are damn catchy songs.

I don 't know how I've gotten this far without mentioning Vampire Weekend and Contra. Originally I wasn't a huge fan but now, even though I still don't think a load of the tarcks make sense, it's one of my favourite albums. My favourite track has to be Giving Up the Gun although it's just pips a few others at the post.

Cee Lo Green and F... You (whichever version you care to mention). I never though it would be so catchy!

Right now I've drawn a blank but I know I'll think of more later. I wasn't even intending on writing that much!

Just going to mention a few random ones of mine that I don't think anyone's included, else I'd be repeating other people's posts (which are all awesome btw)...
    LCD Soundsystem-This Is Happening

Best Coast - Crazy For You

Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles II
