Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Pre-Christmas drinks

I'm guessing all the Fridays and Saturdays are booked up for most people.

What I was going to suggest is that on Sunday 21 December, we met for afternoon drinks/coffee stuff somewhere or other for a couple of hours? Say around 4?

This is for the Dublin based drinks. Anyone doing stuff outside Dublin, feel free to post ideas too.

    Any comments?

Never been to boards drinks, am intrigued to find out how the dynamics of it would work:

Do the mods keep everybody in line?

Namebadges or do ppl introduce themselves by Username?

    Does everbody bring their camera?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Mod's don't keep anyone in line - It's real life now!

    Introduce by name.

Only if you've got some gear porn to show off :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,219 ✭✭✭Calina

I don't usually bring my camera, no, but others do. Occasionally there's some gear swapping going on and stuff but for the most part...nah.

Usually people just come and like, hang out, and most people do a mixture of username and real name. It's up to you what you decide to do there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

    Some people bring cameras.
Almost everyone already knows someone, who in turn knows someone else.
Before you know it, you're chatting away as though you've known everyone for ages.
    Very normal and always enjoyable.

I might actually be around for this one.

Sunday afternoon? Wonderful opportunity to visit some gallery and then to enjoy nice company.
    Good thinking, Calina!

Sounds good to me. I'll make sure to be early so I can introduce everyone to Calina. She'll like that :pac:

If I do have any bags with me it won't be camera gear but Christmas presents. I haven't started my shopping yet and don't intend to do so until that weekend at the earliest.

Aw don't go too mad on me this year. A 500mm f4 should suffice :P.

Should be around too. See you all there.

Oh yes please!! I'm stuck in the house at the moment doing a huge mountain of assignments. It'll be really good to have something to look forward to :)

    Cool.

Darren, I wouldn't advise buying Christmas presents and then going to the pub.
It's all too easy to leave them behind, or have them knicked.

By the way, Arsenal v Liverpool is on at 16:00, so if I'm going, it will have to be somewhere showing this game.
Sorry, but I love football more than I love any of you lot! :p

Where is it? I was angling for something city centrish not too far from Stephens Green Shopping Centre where I usually park but was open to suggestions?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,368 ✭✭✭Covey

    Queen St.

Only there for Book launch. Nice old pub actually.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Not sure if Sin E'll be showing the match, but it'd be a handy spot. Could grab the basement.

That, and pints of the black stuff are only three quid in there on a Sunday...

If there is some interest, I could open up the DCC Gallery for a private viewing of the Brendan Walkin Exhibition (info below). We could then go to a Pub close by. There is Cassidy's, Devitts, The Bleeding Horse to name a few. The Central Hotel is also not far away & it was a nice place for a meet up after Peoples Photography earlier this year.

"Brendan Walkin's Ireland" - retrospective of Brendan Walkin's work continues . This is a series of photographs taken in the late 1970's and early 1980's by Brendan - just before his untimely death. They show Brendan's careful observance of Ireland during those troubling times from protests in Dublin through to gentle scenes of Glendalough, Co. Wicklow. These timeless images continue to impress and show what an insightful observer Brendan was.

Things have gone very quiet on this.
    Is it still going ahead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

    I'll most likely be along.

    Has a venue been agreed?

How about we stick with Sin E 4-5pm?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

I would appreciate address or directions.

Are we going to DCC gallery before that?

If this SinE place is close to DCC then I can arrange to open the Gallery for a viewing. If it's not then it would be impractical.

This was why I suggested a drink in the same area.

It'd only be a 15/20 minute walk from DCC, it's on the north quays.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Arts Moderators, Entertainment Moderators Posts: 9,047 CMod ✭✭✭✭CabanSail

That would work then. We just need two times. One to meet at DCC, look at the Gallery & then walk down to the Pub (maybe 2pm) The second time for those who will just meet at the Pub (maybe 3.30pm)

    Maybe for you grannies! :p

Is DCC on Camden St., or am I totally confused?
If it is, then I'd say the walk is between 20 and 30 mins.
Down Aungier St., onto Georges St., up Dame St., down Parliament St., across Grattan Bridge, then up Ormond Quay. Lots of roads to cross, so the journey would be disrupted quite a bit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,063 ✭✭✭GristlyEnd

Yes DCC is on Camden St but the beauty of sin é is cheap pints

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,547 ✭✭✭City-Exile

I have no problem with Sin é.
Used to drink there when it was an Irish pub.
All I care about is having a TV with the Arsenal v Liverpool game on. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,319 ✭✭✭sineadw

Had forgotten about the cheap pints :D Sin é is its so! I'll spend my savings on a taxi ;)

They may be cheap but they have as much in common with a real pint of Guinness as Dubya being sent Xmas cards by the worlds Arab population.
Being an ex-barman its absolute muck and to compound it they don't even sell Bulmer's the top selling Cider in Europe on draught or in large bottles.

What is it, if it isn't Guinness then?
