i keep meaning to go to the council but never get round to it so i'll try here first.i the future i want to build an extension at the rear of our cottage,although the cottage is side on to the road,and was wandering how big can i build it without planning permission.if it makes a difference i live in mallow county cork.i'd prefer to have the roof going into the existing roof rather than a flat roof.i have loads more questions but will do them at other times.

we need to put a concrete floor in the kitchen.do i just put dpm down then concrete or is it better to put some form of insulaton down?
i'd like to put a window in where the unused chimney breast is.would i
1 need planning permission
2 what kind of lintel would i need(one man me job,me!)

Part of your question can be answered. Yes put insulation down.

Planning depends on where the window is to be located and distance from boundary etc and lintel details are also dependent on various factors. You should get a local professional to help with this.
