Have 5 years of support, 3 of deskside\junior admin, MCSA, studying for CCNA (for a while now as workk got in the way), was on the jobs thread before, contracting for past month till end of year now, question is can anyone recommend a good server hardware course, where i will have good access in a hands on way and setup levels of RAID as if it were business and everything that goes with course, server+ is on offer at BCT for €900, normally i wouldnt, but part of me is thinking i may need an advantage in this current market, I have server experience and exposure to SAN etc and by doing the course (if it was a good hands on one) would be a massive help compared to self study (i have all the materials)....I checked out some HP courses online, any info appreciated....

Try this: I did a course with FAS a few years ago and it was very hands on:

    http://jobbank.fas.ie/servlet/Watis?SESS=30074_10&SERVICE=CRITERIUMBROWSE&COURSE_CODE=979&TEMPLATE=WWW_JS_TRAIN_CRITERIUM_BROWSE.HTM&ROW=1&BACK=TEMPLATE%3DWWW_JS_TRAIN_CRITERIUM_OVERVIEW.HTM

Edit: Apologies, I just realised you probably already have the quals that this course covers

This is a difficult one. Most of the MS courses refer to software RAID. Server+ does talk about all types of raid but does not do labs in this area but there is a lot of theory.
There are specialised EMC courses but I am not familiar with them.

Dell do a lot of courses throughout the year, they would probably be your best bet for a hardware course.

Honestly thought setting up different levels of raid is quite basic, I cant see anyone ever asking you about it in an interview.

Get a cheap server and play with it thats your easiest and probably best solution

Ure right to a degree, have worked supporting RAID, and servers in comms, as a contractor , a lot of stuff day to day that in previous roles didnt have ultimate responsibility for, its a very picky climate for employers, figured would help to have it in course form and hands on rather than my usual self study...

I would be looking at Virtualisation as a topic.. its the way things are heading. Being able to work in a virtual environment is the in thing!

Agree 100%, place i was in a few years ago, came within inches of getting it, was really disappointed when they didnt, all for a lousy 5-6K, would have made their lives immesuarably easier down the line, the shortsighted muppets!!! :D:)

Yeah, I love VMware, Ive been using it GSX came about. What its really good for it using it as a test environment. The problem for a lot of companies that the initial cost is quite high espically if you want to have any sort of DR.

    3 Hosts, 1 SAN + licences is 70 K easy

I still love it though! whats scares me is any sort of Vmware virus...
