I'll think about this as soon as I'm done thinking about whether I'm supposed to say pedantry or pedanticism

"Forums" ftw. The word "Fora" annoys me for some reason, dunno why, they are both correct ways of saying the same thing afaik

According to wikipedia, forums is the preferred term probably because it doesn't sound stupid.

    From the Oxford English Dictionary:

forum (pl. forums) 1 a meeting or medium for an exchange of views. 2 (pl. fora) (in ancient Roman cities) a public square or marketplace used for judicial and other business.
-ORIGIN Latin, 'what is out of doors'.

    Thank bejebus for that.

I thought I was the only one who hated the word "fora".

Yeah, "fora" is the old word for it. I use fairly up to date English and don't speak in tongues or indeed in Latin so my vote is for "forums". I've jsut seen the "fora" word in a few posts in my short tenure here on boards. Never seen it elsewhere.

It really isnt feedback at all.
    I have some feedback.
Ctrl. Click does not work with the nested menu items in the nav bar in firefox.
    There. Thread now legitimate.
    Lolcats time.

Works for me. Try clearing your cache.

Hang on. Just upgraded firefox and it's gravy.
Still tho. It could have been feedback. And that is what makes this thread legitimate.

Fora is used by the same people who refure to use the terms "B.C." and "A.D." and instead use the terms "B.C.E." and "C.E." because they're too cool for school and read something on some now defunct website.

  • Registered Users, Subscribers Posts: 47,307 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

    "B.C.E." and "C.E."?

Thanks eVeNtInE, never heard of those terms before.

Forgot to mention in my post earlier that I've used both, just depends on my mood when I'm typing I suppose. I've no real preference for either tbh.

    'Forums' it is then..

I admit to having used 'fora' once or twice in the past but I apologise to all for the gheyness of it and assure you it'll never happen again. :)

What about those poor confused souls who use 'fora' and 'B.C.' and 'A.D.'?
