It's not the first time I've seen this car blocking the top of the steps here.

    obnoxiousbmw.jpg

I have often been in situations like this and wondered what would be the legal situation if I climbed over the car, dragged my bike over the car or lifted a buggy over the car.

RE: People parking on the footpath.

My neighbours sister( I think ) visits every so often and parks ALL 4 wheels on the footpath meaning nobody can get passed. I can never understand why but I'm not taking a picture of my neighbours family. Too many issues could be brought up.

The answer I was looking for was "L-plates".
First photo: the furthest squad car is obstructing a footpath, while the nearest one is occupying the clearway beside a Blue Badge space and impeding access to a parking ticket machine.

    Why would it be illegal?

Not illegal*, but some people are tetchy about it, whether Boards members or AGS officers IRL.

Did you get the bollocking in this thread/forum?

    *Depends on circumstances/motive though, AFAIK

It's illegal to park partly or wholly on the footpath, or on a grass verge for that matter.

I wouldn't take (or post) photos of my nearest and dearest parked on the footpath either, although it so common as to be normal in this country despite its obvious illegality.

Clamper had something like a stab proof vest on, must be a tough job!

Owner came back about 10 mins later, Woman in early 20s. Was tempted to take photo of her too, but thought that would be too much!

Its ok everybody. he has his warning lights on!

Truck driver would be fully within the law if he simply ploughed through the gab (while taking the side off that car). But the truck might get damaged!

    It's not illegal at all.

The Gardai only don'y want specialist Garda units photographed (CAB, ERU etc).

    because of the clamp?

    indeed.

though if the driver was truely disabled, they would have surely had a blue badge, nad not been clamped.

car had no badge, and woman looked able bodied.
Granted she may have had a chocolate allergy or some other similar serious affliction, but I do not think this qualifies

Always find this in the Crescent in Limerick, just drive in beside the driver's door as tight as you can, folding in mirror(s) where necessary. They can't damage your car getting in if they can't open their door :)

On topic, during the week I was parking outside Fine Wines on Catherine St in Limerick, heading towards the city, so I indicated right and moved across the road in front of the space, to reverse in. It was the last space left at the end, so there was enough room for one and bit cars, definitely not two. As I looked behind me, some bint in a newish Golf had swung into the space behind me. I thought about getting out and having "words", but I decided instead to reverse back slowly until I hit her front bumper. Not hard enough to do any sort of damage, just enough so that she'd feel it inside the car. Then I got out and smiled back at her, and saw she'd reversed tight to the car behind her. Bonus :D

She was still there when I came back later, unfortunately nobody got the delight of watching her attempt to get out of the space :(

Just out of curiosity, what's the correct thing to do if someone blatantly steals a space? I'd imagine calling the guards would be pretty useless, since they won't even deal with illegal parking. And confronting the person probably counts as assault. Does this mean those who steal spaces like this are more protected by the law than those who have been waiting patiently for however long for the space?

dougie calling the guards over "someone took my parking space" they'll just laugh down the phone and tell you PFO and stop wasting time.

    That's why I said it'd be "pretty useless" ;)

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭thats not gone well

Haha could it not also be said that by parking so close to your one that you illegally immobilised her car?
There by putting you in the wrong?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 677 ✭✭✭dougie-lampkin

That's my point, she's in the right for having jumped in front of me? Say there was a queue out the door in your local bank, and she strolled right up to the front and cut in front of you. The guards won't care, but if you do anything about it, you'll be in the wrong. Same thing here?

And it's not illegally immobilised, her car is still perfectly mobile :P

While I wouldn't ever steal someones space, if you did that to me, I'd have the Guards there waiting to take your statement and have you pay to inspect the car for any sign of damage!

You should never intentionally hit someones car!

  • Registered Users Posts: 239 ✭✭thats not gone well

Capable of mobility, yes, but since she got blocked in I’d say that falls into the same category as clamping. ;)
Besides if she tried to move and damaged your car she'd definitely be in the wrong regardless.

It’s definitely a different mentality people have when they drive. What would be regarded as inappropriate in the bank for example, is “perfectly fine” in some people’s eyes once they get on the road.

The problem with confronting someone is that they obviously don't give a sh*t anyway, since they stole your space to start with.
So you run the risk of being shouted at, beaten up or stabbed.
There is a certain element in society that has come to realise that and they do skip queues, steal your space, abandon their car, throw rubbish on the streets, etc...
The Gards do not have time to deal with stuff like that (can't blame them) and so the message that gets send out to people like that is "It's OK, go ahead, no one cares or at best they'll have a bit of a moan but no one will do anything"
So, in short, if someone does steal your space, better drive on because it's just not worth it.

It's very tempting to retaliate, but unless you can think of a risk-free method (or you're not bothered about consequences) you may end up creating even more hassle for yourself. As I mentioned earlier in this thread, an obnoxious parker once drove at me with his car while I had a 2-year-old child in my arms because I had the audacity to challenge him about parking inappropriately in a family/Parent & Child space.

Ok i presume this has been said before, but im not trawling through 178 pages to find out.

Maybe when this person parked here there were other cars parked over the white lines in the spaces adjacent and this was the only way they could park.

Unless we were watching since the opening of the car park how do we know?

Eircom vehicles obstruct a footpath (and cycle lane) forcing a grandmother to push a pram through soggy grass.

So you're saying the photo either shows one moron parked all over the shop, or that it is evidence of several other morons who had previously done likewise? Whichever way you cut it, morons abound.
