I've seen caravans being delivered on the back of flatbeds down the country and in the UK, and every time they've had a van in front and behind with warning lights and signs.

    The above is horrifically reckless.

yeah the regulations are bloody complicated to read, a load is only allowed a tiny overhang anything more and it would be classed as an abnormal load and require escorts, im not sure of the distance but that is taking the piss,
should have been taken off the road

edit: 2.6 metres appears to be the max width:eek:

I'd have called the cops if I was driving behind that.

Lads do any of ye posting pictures of Garda vehicles know what the Gardai do in their shifts and why they are required to park close to their stations or shopping centers or wherever the hell they are.

They are emergency responders where seconds can make a big difference, hence why they are exempt from parking regulations.

Also they need to park their cars (that you, me and they have paid for) in very public places in full view of themselves or the general public.

Any decent "scumbag" would have no hesitation in slashing a Garda vehicles's tyres, keying the car, putting the windows in.....

    or at worst

if left unattended in a car park or back street.

For the record I agree that parking on a kerb where there is no room to fit past a wheelchair or pram is unacceptable.

If you see Gardai doing this dont be afraid to point it out to them, they are human and might not think of it when preoccupied with other important tasks.

I agree with some of this. But there are yellow lines in front of shopping center entrances for a reason. I often see kids trying to cross the road, peering out from behind cop vans.

Worse still because you have cars overtaking the van.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 3,934 Mod ✭✭✭✭Turner

At least they are peering out and checking the road, it would be worse if they just ran out.

Its up to parents to educate their kids about road safety to cope with all conditions.

Drive down Patrick Street in Cork or O Connell Street in Limerick though and you will see hundreds of adults no able to cross the road safely.

You make some reasonable points there, but very often the emergency response angle just doesn't tally. I could post several examples to illustrate but that would just bore the pants off people and possibly derail the thread.

FWIW, my personal opinion is that where a Garda vehicle must be parked in a manner that would be illegal or inappropriate for the general public, then the first priority should be to maintain the safety and convenience of vulnerable road users (eg pedestrians, children, disabled people, senior citizens).

Regarding the general operation of Garda vehicles in non-emergency situations, guidelines have been issued by the Garda Inspectorate.

    Agreed.

Trust me, we would all love to see Katherine O Toole appointed Minister for Justice.

She would clean this country up.

Not a great pic, if you can see the person is parked on a ramp that I assume is there for wheel chair access/wheeling in heavy loads. There's about 50 other empty parking spaces around!

This person parked there yesterday also but I put it down to it being dark and them not noticing... obviously not.

Such careless abandonment of a vehicle presents an obstacle to other road users, and suggests the owner has not read, understood or appreciated the Rules of the Road. On the other hand, the owner of the Audi just wants a good smack.

Note 99-LH Volvo S40 taxi blocking inside lane of Morehampton Road for a few minutes. I think the passenger might have been using the ATM, and clearly it is unreasonable to expect a taxi to find somewhere to pull in without holding up at least four buses (say 100-200 people) and other traffic.

I'm a bit distracted this morning. You're being ironic, right? :)

That taxi is on double-yellows, almost on top of a pedestrian crossing, and (I think) in an ASL.

    Just noted that point.

It's a subject for another thread, but you're on the the wrong track with that kind of thinking, IMO. It is up to all of us in our society to educate our children about road safety. Law enforcers and people in public positions of authority have an even greater responsibility than others to exemplify and promote proper behaviour on the roads.

Just to add a third perspective here, we all need to remember that kids are kids - expecting a child to compensate for the ignorant parking of an adult is likely to have a tragic outcome.

I think the KKK guy subliminally suggested the ice cream cone in the first place.

    Like this Swedish ice cream.

Singling out or criticising another poster isn't on lads, you know that.

If you've a problem with a poster or a post, report it and let us have a look at it.

Attack the post, not the poster.

    Hey!! It's mine!! :D

Nah. I prefer when I was taking pictures of gers_punto whatever he was called because he was parking like an ass and lo and behold he comes onto boards.ie to defend himself, gets a rollicking and ends up parking properly because I started stalking the car park to p*ss him off. :D

One converted, many more to go.
