Ok, I tried this in the instrument forum but got no reply and I thought that must people who play the sax are into jazz. I know not all, but most...

I was looking around the shops at Saxophones and most ones I see are in the key of F#. However, I am aware that they can come in other keys. I was wondering would most music on the sax be played in F#? Not jazz music really, i'm not really a fan of it:o. I'm thinking more along the lines of Clarence from the E-Street Band...

Any help would be much appreciated.

Alto sax is always (as far as I know) in Eb and Tenor and Soprano in Bb.
F# looks odd; do not know any instrument off hand in F#?

Nope that F# you're seeing is the highest 'official' note you can play on the sax. The sax you linked to is an alto, so it's in Eb. It's arguably the handiest to start on, most teachers would agree.

I would recommend the Jupiter 565, but if you're willing to spend over a grand I'd be going for a Yanagisawa, Yamaha, or top end would be a Selmer. I think a Jupiet would do a beginner though.
