Evan Rachel Wood will play Spider-Man's love interest Mary Jane Watson in a musical based on the superhero.

The production, which will be directed by Julie Taymor with music from Bono and The Edge, is expected to open on Broadway in 2010.

However, Wood said that the lead role has not been cast, adding that bosses are attempting to persuade her Across The Universe co-star Jim Sturgess. "[They are] still trying to convince him," she told IESB.

Rehearsals for the musical will begin in June 2009.
