Tell your buddy to grab a Golden Pages and call every ins co - it'll take an hour or so but it's the only way to be sure of the best quote for him.

I think St. Paul's specialise in performance car insurance.

There are a few specialised underwriters - ARB, St. Paul Travellers, XS etc.

Your best bet is to consult a broker, who handles a volume of these types of risks.

Britton's in Donegal are pretty good.

p.s. "Low cost insurance" and "Porsche" are mutually exclusive.

...no they're not, especially if the Porsche is getting on a bit. AXA have a section called "concours" for special cars and are worth a shout.

No Boxters are classic cars though. Yet.

There's only two ways to get a low quote on a non-classic performance car:

    1. Be older (at least 30s) and have a long NCB
    2. Be prepared to pay out a huge excess (>€4k) in case you cause damage

But as Anan1 said, ring all insurers and all brokers.

If the porsche is a 2nd car it can be insured as a "classic" even if it not 20 years old .this policy is a low milage 1 (3000-5000miles can't rember)
Got a quote for a 944 3.0l s2 which was 12 years old at the time for 495euro a couple of years ago , I was 35 years old with a full NCB.
You must also be a member of Porsche club of Ireland.
phone them for details as they are very helpfull .

I think it was both quinn direct and hiberian that did these policys.

    Have a Long NCB..?

The longest you can have is 5 years is it not....

I'm not sure. It might depend on your insurance company. Check with them to make sure.

If I were an insurance company, I would not provide insurance based on a "longest NCB of 5 years". I would offer a significant discount for someone with over 10 year of claim free driving (compared to said 5 years NCB) and I would further reduce the premium if the NCB would reach 15, 20, 25, 30, etc. years

Most insurance companies don't require the car to be on classic road tax (i.e. 30 years old) to give classic insurance.

Some have mileage restrictions, some have a high "excess", so you would be best to shop around.
