From the Tuam Herald. The bit left out by the Tuam Herald is that both of these stupid stunts were reported by OTHER drivers and that one of the other drivers followed up the cops to make sure they investigated .

If you have planks like this in your neighbourhood simply report them and let the Guards do their job. The drivers who spotted yer man did not even have to go to court because yer man had admitted it all to the Guards.

Man who ‘undertook’ on hard shoulder banned and fined

A BOY RACER who was put off the road for dangerous driving at
Tuam Court was told by Judge David Anderson that he couldn’t
expect to get away with this type of driving, especially when his
car stood out like a sore thumb.

Damien O’Connell of Old Road, Tuam, was before the
Court facing two charges of dangerous driving relating to separate
    incidents on the one day.

Insp Paul Cuttler told the Court that on April 17 last at
Tawnaghmore, Corofin, O’Connell overtook a line of traffic,
passing a sign that said no overtaking.

Later at Anbally, Cummer he pulled in behind a vehicle
and then overtook it on the hard shoulder. “He undertook,” Judge
    Anderson said.

He was driving a 1996 Mitsubishi Lancer at the time.

James Glynn solr (defending) said his client drove for his
father’s company. He has a huge love of cars and this had led to his
    behaviour on the road.

Judge Anderson asked how much a 19-year–old paid in insurance
for a car like this and was told €1,600. The Judge thought
this was great value and asked what company offered such a
good deal. Quinn Direct he was informed.

James Glynn pleaded that his client needed his licence to continue
working for his father and asked the Court not to impose a
    disqualification.

“You know it’s not as if you don’t stick out like a sore thumb
in these cars,” Judge Anderson said before he imposed a fine of
€750 and a one year driving disqualification

Yup, he won't be doing it again anytime soon. I know of this guy and I do know he lives for cars and now he has a VERY long year ahead of him...Why would you risk wasting every cent you saved (and he paid every cent for his car and insurance) by doing something as stupid as that?

Some people never cease to amaze me...

There is a piece in this weeks Tuam Herald on page 4 (not yet online) about a guy who was doing 190kmph and yet did not lose his licence. Great message to be sending out.
