Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Liverpool v Hull Game Thread

Crucial one - potentially a good game of football against Hull, who I'd seriously doubt will come to park the infamous bus. They are well up the table and can afford to play a bit given they are well away from the relegation zone so in a sense have nothing to lose really. Once again it will be interesting to see who Rafa will pick given the rest a lot of the players got midweek and the fact that the Arsenal game isnt until another 8 days. With five wins and three draws in the league really need to win this one. It would be nice to go four points clear at the top, even if only for a while.

I'd imagine Agger will get the nod ahead of Sami but cant be certain. I think Gerrard, Alonso, Riera and Kuyt are automatic picks for this game with the remaining two places between Masch, Keane and Babel. Given the opposition I can see Babel and Keane getting the nod ahead of Masch due to the opposition - I can see it being a game where we have most of the possession but have to struggle a bit to get the first goal. Can see Masch or Lucas being the first sub depending on how things are going. Will also be interested to see who makes the bench - reckon Insua might be in with a shout as backup for Dossena (and possibly Riera). The one thing that bothers me about this formation is that Gerrard could well end up playing most of his football too far away from goal where I think he is a lot less effective. I think this has been a problem this season. With this team as well we could see Babel and Kuyt switching positions if Rafa wants to Babel to have some time at RW with Kuyt up front. I would also be hopeful that the defence will return to their mean ways and keep a clean sheet.

    Reina
    Arbeloa Agger Carragher Dossena
    Kuyt Gerrard Alonso Riera
    Keane Babel

    Subs : Cavalieri , Hyypia , Insua , Mascherano , Lucas, Benayoun , Ngog

    On Setanta Ireland at 3pm

Hoping to see Keane get the fúcking finger out here & hope he doesn't moan like a 90 year old nun to the rest of the team as he has been doing lately.

Here's hoping for 3 points today. Hoping to see Babel and Keane do well!!

Hull unbeaten in 4 matches, which includes 3 draws, away form is better than home. Only team to beat them on their travels were United and they still managed to score 3 against them.

Going for a shock Hull narrow win.

I can't see Liverpool losing this one - aren't we the only team unbeaten in the whole of 2008 at home?

Still though, avoiding defeat isn't enough. We need to be picking up 3 points in these fixtures. Being four points clear of Chelsea before they play tomorrow would be a nice little advantage to have!

Absolutely, well we scored 6 goals away from home in the last 2 games so hopefully something from those games will carry over to this one.

The Liverpool team in full: -

    My formation guess

    Reina,
    Arbeloa-Carra-Hyypia-Dossena
    ----Alonso-Mascherano,
    Benayoun-Gerrard---Riera
    Kuyt.

Subs: Cavalieri, Agger, Keane, Babel, Lucas, Ngog, El Zhar.

Keane benched again, Kuyt can't play on his own any more than Keane can.

hmmm not too big a fan of that...no pace again...though I suppose theres a good chance Hull will be pretty deep anyway.

If Hull do come and try to play some football, the lack of pace could really cost us trying to attack on the break though.

Blah. Not a fan of that team.

    1) Mascherano not needed at home against Hull

    2) Kuyt should not be leading the line

    3) Benayoun in the team ahead of Babel & Keane ?

    4) Very very little pace in attack

    5) Hyypia ahead of Agger at home ? We need Aggers passing to break down teams

Two holding midfielders and effectively one up front rafa playing for a nil nil

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

The only thing that I can think of is that Rafa is guessing Phil Brown, who has not shirked a challange thus far, will play an open game but his team will get tired running up against Masch/Alonso, then throw on Babel/Keane for the last 25 and beat them.

A bit risky of thats it.

I would have played Keane instead of Benny, but aside from that i'm happy.
