4x4 very hard to get off

    we have a trooper here 2004 and the 4 wheel drive can be very hard to get off after you turn it on. like yesterday there was a hedgecutter in front and i went to press the hazzards and presed the 4 wheel drive by accident and i couldnt get if off there and then. had to back home and sort of dog it into reverse a couple of times to get it off. whats wrong withit do ye know?

    check the compressor pipes
    behind the battery on the drivers side plus the one on the other sise it has a one way valve on it can sometimes seperate here

    No compressor involved in 4 wheel drive selection on a Trooper.

    Have you checked the transfer box for oil.

    It has its own seperate oil to the actual gearbox.

    Normally a little bit of reverse will unselect it.

    Are you sure it was stuck in 4 wheel drive and that it wasn't just the sensor that was stuck?

    There is 2 plugs on the axle and the wires bend coming into them, they have been know to break right at the plugs

    to be honest i checked nothing yet. would it be caused from not enough use ie its only used about once every three months.

    that shouldnt really have an effect unless combined with a situation where misses out on regular maintenance... which would make problems of most kinds more likely to occur.

    You'll be able to tell if a sensor or something is at fault by trying to make it scuff/spin the wheels a bit, at low speed of course, if it spins/scuffs a front and a rear then its still in 4, if not it's in 2
