    Hey guys,

I have a 01 3 series coupe that needs a service. Just wondering if anyone can recommend a good garage that can offer an excellent service.

I was thinking of bringing it to Joe Duffy BMW where I bought it but am sure they would charge a fortune for the same work another garage might do.

    Cheers

Alan Carroll (AC Cars) are very well thought of, i'm sure a quick google would throw up their details.

AC Cars or Chelmsford Motors (01)4973126

I may be from Cork but simply from word of mouth on boards, i can tell you not to go to Joe Duffy

A dealer is of no benefit to you specially if there are no problems with the car.
Work out which service is due from mileage & service book. This will show any additional works required at your specific mileage. Get a good small garage to do the work. It will half your bill.
I would supply the oil myself to the garage just to be sure of what you are getting

It once again does pain me to have to defend Duffy's service but I had new pads fitted two weeks ago and the car was washed, hoovered, two light bulbs replaced for free and it was 260 inc vat. They also replaced that 19" M sport alloy they kerbed on me FOC.

On the original question, I think at the stage of your car's life I wouldn't bother with a main dealer, find a good independent and you're laughing.

Isn't there a BM specialist down around kells in Co.Meath i recall. Meant to be good at Baverian stuff and well priced.

Iirc you are on service inclusive with your car so you are a good customer to them. Also there is nothin cheap about 260 euro for pads (assuming front pads only)

Lads thanks for the replies. Anan1 I might have a look at AC cars, ill give them a call on Monday and see what they can do.

I didnt really want to go to a dealer, but I never got a BMW serviced before so I wasnt sure if I should take it to someone who knows what their doing. But then again, I'm sure there are plenty of garages out there that specialize in BMW servicing.

Anyone ever heard of "MAC BMW Specialists" in Western Industrial Estate, Dublin 12... someone gave me a card for them today but just wondered if anyone had any dealings with them before.

BMW's are no harder to service than any other car out there.
There is no mistique to them, infact I've persoanally serviced my BM's for yonks and they are some of the easiest cars on the planet to service. Well thought out German engineering makes them accessible and logical. Any decent mechanic should be able to address routine work on a BM.

Just as a matter of interest, what work exactly is included in a service?... Is an oil change part of a service?

There's been an engine light on the dash of the car for a week or so also, so should that be looked at in the service? I also have a really fast blinking right indicator which the bulb may be loose or on its way out, should this be looked at also.

    Don't have service inclusive.

I'm not saying the price was amazing I'm just saying for a main dealer price on a car like that it's not as painful as people make out and at the end of the day I need the book stamped for the moment.

That's usually a dodgy fuse. Are these problems with the car only since you got it? And if so, how long have you got the car?

No I have the car a year now and haven't had any problems with it at all. (*Touch Wood) Its over due a service by about 2000km so I really have to leave it in next week before Christmas to get it sorted.

I wont be calling around until Monday so if anyone wants to suggest any more garages between now and then, please do.

What's wrong with a service from Joe Duffy's? Is it the price or the quality of the service they do?

    Robert Furley
    bmw10@eircom.net
    086-0808349 / 046-9243711

I would recommend him (as well as AC Cars)

  • Registered Users Posts: 22,815 ✭✭✭✭Anan1

Be careful if you use Robert - I had about €700 worth of work done on a Porsche 911 last year, he called me when the car was ready and asked would I mind paying him in cash. I did so, and he subsequently refused to provide me with an invoice for the work.

In fairness, any time that I have used him, I always got a detailed invoice!

Engine light is probably some sensor gone or WARNING you of a problem. Get to a main dealer or a good BM mechanic

That fast right indicator could be a voltage drop from your rear light clusters. Same thing happened on mine. Have a look at both rear clusters by opening the boot and check the connector part on the cable and the cluster. You might see a corroded metal pin. Most likely it will be on the cluster part.

Went to Frank Keane BMW and got a replacement for about €40

    Good luck
