I had an eircom netopia DSL modem/router and now I have the wireless-n .
    my question is this
phone line goes straight into the DSL router/modem,how do i connect my broadband connection to the wireless n router?
No DSL on new router only WAN port which has me confused!

just run an ethernet cable from the eircom modem to the wan port, it should just work tehn, but you may need to configure security on the new router,

also if your eircom modem is wireless log into that and disable the wireless,

Pity you didn't get an ADSL wireless router instead to replace that brick! Connect an ethernet cable from the Netopia to your new wireless router. I've a feeling connecting it to the WAN port won't work -- try one of the other LAN ports. Needed to do this with a similar setup. Disable wifi on one of them so they don't interfere with each other.

As you now have two routers in your system you will have to turn off the routing function in one of them (as well as the wireless function too). Try turning off the routing (dhcp) and the wireless in the netopia. this will mean that the netopia will act as the modem and feed the signal to the wireless router. You need to run and ethernet cable from the netopia to the wireless router.

Then you will need to set up your new wireless network in your new router. Also if you had any ethernet connections to the netopia they will need to be transferred to the new model.

If I cant run this individually (without hooking it up through the netopia) what are its uses?
I was hoping to just have one router working at n-speed(the new one)!
Is it specifically for cable broadband or what?
    thanks john

PS is it possible to connect this up by using an old BT Zyxel prestige 660RU-T1?

Yes, it's for 'cable' (not just cable but a cable modem, ADSL modem or other such modems that connect directly to the WAN port).

That Zyxel router you've linked to wouldn't be much different from using your current Netopia -- would still have to connect it to your new wireless router. The only difference I can see is that it doesn't have wifi.

I may be missing something here but what is the tenda?

And you will only get 'n' speeds if you have an 'n' card in the computer you are using.

As Dub already said you will need to set your netophia router into bridged mode to allow it act as a normal router to your new router.

The speed increase has absolutley no effect on your web browsing or downloading films/musics ect of the internet if that is why you bought it.

The router will increase the speed of connecting into the wlan and to other systems that are all using similiar N controllers and streaming media over the wireless connections ONLY if they are using N pcmcia cards or regular N pci cards.

Also if the lan port on the crapthophia is only 10/100 the speed between the two routers will also be limited to the port speed.

    My set up at home
NTL router - Set in bridge mode - Connected via lanport 1 to Routers WAN port using a CAT6.
Linksys router has been configured with the ISP details as i wanted my linksys router to do the dhcp and port forwarding not the NTL router.
