TVDX, what burner have you got? It might be a Dual Layer burner, but the burner itself might not have the blanks 'Media Code' in the firmware, update your drive, if there is a recent firmware, or patch the firmware, using the links in my last post.

spongbob, yeah, the dye is great on them.

Bought more from Ballybrack this morning, nothing quite like shopping at 5.40am..

What burner are you using and what xbox drive do you have?

Very common in HP Laptops. More of an OEM brand than one from the shop.

Bought 4 of these today but had to go on a hunt...

There are none left in Tesco Clarehall (I got the last one)
There are three left in Tesco Clearwater as of right now.

Edit: For anyone with an Apple computer - these discs wont be accepted by the Matshita Superdrives - you must use an external burner or windows machine.

Just to to add. These are fakes. I asked over at CDFreaks about them and the 'media code' suggest the discs are made by Ricoh Japan, they are not.

Not too upset myself, as they seem to work fine for everyday video. A slight pause at the layer break, but I've not had any that were unplayable.

Here's the answer from the CDFreaks forum.

These Tesco media have faked MID code and were made by Umedisc's Chinese subsidiaries - Jilin Quingda and Henan Kerry.

Typically Ricoh Japan will be made in Japan and the physical media will also have stamper marks on the inner or outer ring, serial numbers etc. The Tesco media are totally blank.

    Just a heads up.

Saw them in tesco clearwater on friday. There were 8 boxes on the shelf. Bought 2 myself and put 3 or 4 behind the blank dvd cases on the shelf above for fellow boardsies! :D

Have had four packs of these. Great so far - no duds.

Had 4 or 5 in Sligo today. Upstairs between the stairs and cash register on the LHS on one of the middle shelves :)

Tesco Ashbourne had half-a-dozen boxes yesterday.

I've already bought three boxes and burned about three of them without any problems.

Got a pack in Tesco Dun Laoghaire on Saturday

Had about 10 packs left on shelf

Just a quick heads up on DL dvd.
I can't find those tesco branded anywhere.
I went to Peats and they have 10 memorex for 30 euro
I went to Maplin and they have 10 intenso or 10 memorex for the same price.
The only available resource to get affordable price is online, so here is the bargain:

If you go to Pixmania they sell a cake of 25 360 infiniti 8X for € 28,72 Inc. VAT
When adding the delivery for 2 of them the final price is € 63,67 Inc. VAT

Now if you check just above your order you will notice that these dvd are provided by Impact Computers LTD.

Go to their website and be amazed by the fact that the same DVD are sold for 16.99 pounds (20 euro)

Add 3 of them to the chart and be again amazed to discover that the total price for 75 high quality 8x dl dvd + delivery is 57.86 pounds that translated in euro is € 65.27 Inc. VAT

So with 2 euro more than Pixmania you get another cake of 25!!!

I hope you will find this info usefull

There's one pack left in Tesco Maynooth. There were 3 earlier, but I got 2 of them (someone had them hidden at the back of the shelf!).

why would you want that many dual layer disks though unless you were copying dvd's from extravision or involved in dvd piracy maybe?

  • Registered Users Posts: 935 ✭✭✭darconio

I certanly use them for my own backups and obviously not only that one.
The point here is slightly different: this is the bargain section and I simply posted a bargain I found.
I honestly prefer to spend 25 euro on 25 good quality DVD (delivery included) than purchasing poor quality dvd from tesco.
And since I am making the order, and paying for the delivery, why not purchase a couple more?
Your assumption on my piracy involvment is quite out of place: if I go to peats and buy a cake of 100 dvd means that I am a pirate?

sorry for the assumption as i know you are not involved in any piracy, the question was aimed at people who search out large numbers of Cheap dvd's but like photographers and amateur drama groups etc many would want them for purely legitimate reasons but there are others that dont.

DVD Recorder! - same as a Video recorder but records TV on DVD!
Bulk buy your DVD's at cheap price and record TV:D

    Just bought 25 DVD+R for €3-99 or 16 cent each!!! 10 CDR cost €1-98?
I'd expect to record 2 movies (off tv) per disk. on average with standard quality. (Really need to clear that Sky + )

They exist but they are very rare.
I'm actually surprised by the fact that with the advent of bluray it's still so difficult to find DL dvd at a reasonable price

Ordered ten verbatims and 3 traxdata in dual layer cases from justmedia last friday evening, they were shipped on monday and arrived on tuesday by courier and cost 23.25 altogether. The verbs are the original good ones that work well for 'back ups' and not the new type on svp.co.uk that some people are reporting problems with. Burned 4 and didn't have a problem with them yet. about half the tescos were glitchy or unreadable. Also, fair play to justmedia, they put 3 blank cds, 3 dvd-rws, 3 dvd-rs, and 3 blank music cds that kinda look like records on one side in the box for free, was a nice little surprise and i'll definitely use them again.

Aldi have their Medion 20 pack DVD-R's and 5 pack DVD-RW's going for less than a fiver. I find them to be very reliable discs.

Saw some in Tesco Drogheda today.

The packaging was different to the ones I bought a year ago, but they were Tesco own brand.

Just don't rely on them too much.

DVD+R DL 8,5 GB Prodye unbranded 8x Speed Double Layer in Spindle 100-pack.
    €39.49 + €12.95 p+p = 53 cent a disc and they work perfect for 360 backups.

I was alerting users to a "bargain alert" as I deemed it. I have no affiliation to the company other than being a customer now and again. Plus my comment was just as similar as this alert in this same thread.

    No worries though, point taken.
