Well the only time I downloaded Visual Studio was from dreamspark, and I got my email registration instantly.

I've no idea how/where/what method you're using for it though

Have you checked your spam folders etc, a lot of spam filters reject microsofts emails.

Get the DreamSpark one if you're a student, can't complain about free Visual Studio :)

Dreamspark is a promotion whereby students can d/l Visual Studio amongst other stuff for free.

You have to be a student and your college needs to be registered afaik. If you are a student and you are studying using Visual Studio, then your college should be able to provide you a with a copy on your home pc/laptop.

If you dont fall into the above categories, then you probably should purchase it.

Are you a student? what college? what course ? what year?

    Yes and No...
Yes: i have a repeat in Java Concurrency
No: Trying to learn a new language(C#)

Dreamspark asked for a email address with @college.ie but i don't have one-never bothered to signup for one.

So technically you are not a student. (every student has a college email address). Therefore you are not entitled to free software. You need to buy it

What's preventing you from running the express edition? As far as I know it should be ready to go once its installed.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,579 ✭✭✭Webmonkey

I would attempt to register using another email address first anyways before buying it. The express edition should do you fine. Have you had it over 30 days already so or what as you can use it for a limited period without having to register.

The offer has been opened up a little more: no colleges were listed for Ireland and not everyone has an international student ID card so you can have your application processed manually. No need for a '@college.ie' address; just use your college address.

Erm, dreamspark had about 30 colleges from Ireland when I registered

It's a massive 3.31 GB file. On my fourth download attempt now! Worth trying the download manager instead of the 'normal' download.
