. how do they stand up these days ?

I think McGowan keeps it to a minimum.

Mate of mine saw them about two or three years ago, said he had a hell of a night.
Not exactly my scene, but i always judge an artist on it's crowd reaction that what i think of the music, so if it's good enough for him, it's good enough for me. :)

me mother and father seen em a while back. They said they enjoyed it but mainly because shane was falling around the stage and mixing up some of the words. Personally i wouldnt bother spending me money on seen em

I was thinking this exact same thing yesterday. I wouldn't mind seeing them to be honest but I've heard some fairly bad things (About shane obviously)

Sit in a deck chair outside CopperFace Jacks and stick some Pogues on your iPod. That way you see hear Pogues and see people blearily staggering about for free.

McGowan was always drunk on stage but now it would be depressing to see him. I was in a pub in Islington a while ago I went over to shake his hand. He was sound and he shook my hand but he'd pissed himself.

That's not exactly what I meant.

This is a story I was told by a friend, (Can't prove if it's true or not, just have to take her word for it) Anyway, she went to see them a few years ago, shane was in a wheelchair and was pushed onto the stage. All seemed normal, he was obviously hammered but sure you'd be shocked if he wasn't. They managed to make it through one or two songs well enough, but things turned sour when shane got sick all over himself and passed out. He was wheeled off stage and the crowd were told it was time to go home, show's over.

Last year was a dreadful performance, the year before was pretty good but from what I've seen of them over the years that was a once-off I think. MacGowan will be locked, and 90% of the audience will be off their faces so unless you intend to do likewise I'd give it a miss. The band are tight enough though, so at least you'll know what tune they're playing even if you can't make out the lyrics. All in all a very messy night out though. Not for the easily offended.
