Sorry I also forgot to say that one was out and out hatred whereas the other seemed to be a joke (albeit not a very good one).

But bad jokes get you bans these days seemingly ;)

Like the petition for the right to paternity leave which men do not have in this country.
Yep, that would be the 2nd from the top of my small list of Demandz. The other is having more expensive insurance. Maybe it does cost more to insure men's penises, I dunno...

^ Would you like more expensive dry cleaning and haircuts also to redress the balance?

There is a slight difference between making a generalisation and misandry/misogyny. They are not the same.

You dont need to be a feminist to not want to read disgusting hateful things about women.

If racism isnt tolerated, neither should sexism be.

Buy some clothes that you can wash in a washing machine. Men have to get suits drycleaned as well, and that costs up on €150 - hence we just don't wear suits except at special occasions.

When you're a young person, from experience, the cost of having a penis can be up on €700-€1200 more expensive. If you spend that much on your hair, then fair play to you for looking after your hair. The worst thing of all is that, if you're penis is 6" long, you still pay the same more expensive rate as someone with a penis of 12" length.

The way I see it, is that I don't get a choice of how long I want mine to be (unless I go stretching it and stuff like that), but if we were judging it by risk, then I would imagine that a young male driver aged 20 is more likely to injure his crotch if it's 12" than if it's 6" long.

Therefore, for insurance companies to say that men's insurance premiums is judged on the basis of risk is illogical and wrong.

Then join the lobby group that is taking them to the EU courts over it.

Good idea. I knew one existed, I was just never arsed hopping on the bandwagon.

But yeah, I don't really like lobby groups.. they often just stink of "we want this or else...", for example the Shell to Sea campaign. I don't like joining groups that aren't open to discussion.

Meh..

Its always a thin line between whats funny and avoiding offended someone. I subscribe to the "time and the place" culture myself. It never matters whether someone did not intend to offend or was just making a joke, if its offensive its offensive.

Sometimes as with many situations in life, its only when it becomes a bigger show of hands, do offensive issues get dealt with. But that doesnt make the lesser dealt with issues any lesser in importance than more vocal issues such as gender discrimination.

it takes alot to offend me and most of us in this thread are mature adults, even the snyper lad. (:p) The smokescreen of an internet board makes it easier for us to disassociate ourselves from the content we post, and the content we read. When things like this arise, i ask myself would it be ok to say it in the office to a friend in the presence of others or down the local supermarket to a friend in the presence of others.

The bigger issue in my view is that it brings the tone of AH down at times that really is off putting. I have gone through periods where i dont bother going to AH and it is usually the result of stupid comments derailing threads that really dont offer "comeback" value to me. Im not sure if Im making my point in the right way here, i guess my point is that whether or not the comments are offensive or not is one issue, and on a bigger picture perspective they offer nothing but to generate negatively upon the forum and (hopefully not) boards itself.

Its not the mods fault either, as i said at the start, its a thin line. Im not sure what the solution is either, lock threads that derail or as soon as they go off topic? I dont know, im sure that creates new issues.

now Im rambling, hopefully some of it made sense!

There is no broad solution to this.

Deal with it case by case by reporting posts and those reported posts will be looked at/dealt with accordingly.

To say there is a obvious problem is a bit crazy. To think there is something that could be implemented that would solve that problem is just mental.

I didn’t really want to post in this thread but here goes. The thread about “bitch” was a bit of fun and the OP got slated by the “burn your bra brigade” and yes Thaed I know yours are too expensive to burn ;) I didn’t have a problem with that tbh and found it funny. Yes I think I’m more a bloke when it comes to things like that.

However, rape is not funny. It’s not a joking matter. In fairness the thread wasn’t started to make rape funny. It was about a rape device but unfortunately took a twisted turn. With posts like this all you can do is report it if you find it offensive. There was a thread started last week about rape and the poster wanted to know “if you could get away with it would you do it” This was locked and deleted in about 2 mins and fair play to Terry for doing so.

Moral of the story: If you have a problem with a post, report it.

Actually if was to post hate filled mandrist bollix in AH I would expect to be called on it and banned from AH ( again).
It would depend on the context and the content.
A lot of posters are not as internet toughened as myself and Sliverfish and won't get into a debate here or call people on things in AH or even report the post cos they don't want the abuse or hassle.
But I'm saying here and now that they can call people on those things and if they have a valid point, it will be heard.
I'm saying that they can throw in the odd joke about men being sloppy pigs or whatever other stereotype you want to bandy about.

Even handedness is all that is being asked for.
We are even handed.
We just don't ban every single person because they may or may not have said something that has upset a woman.

This is not about history it is about the attitudes which are held today by people posting in AH and the attitude that such comments and posts are permissible and acceptable and that you dare not report posts or question it or be seen as a trouble maker, rabble rouser, prude of man hating bitch with no sense of humour.
You can see the reported posts forum.
Have you ever seen any of us call someone a "man hating bitch with no sense of humour" for reporting a post?
Prude?
Trouble maker?
Rabble rouser?
Ok, maybe the last two, but it's generally people who are trouble makers and not someone who has reported a post because it was misogynist. We also don't take the piss out of these people either.
Personally that stuff will make me shrug and think and so is yore ma,
but ragging on women is not going to stop until the mods put their foot down and that is what we are asking.
We're not going to put our foot down.
As I have stated again and again in this thread, everything will be taken on a case by case basis.
We're not going to tell people they can't tell a woman to get back to the kitchen in a jokey manner and we're not going to tell women that they can't make a joke about the size of a man's penis in a jokey manner.
Yes, they are crude jokes, but some people find them funny. I'm not going to pass judgement on someone's sense of humour unless it's really messed up.
If it is a really messed up post, something along the lines of "ah sure all women are whores", then I will deal with it.

I don't pull out the misogyny card at the drop of a hat or a pair of knickers and if you think that this site has no impact at all on society then I think you have your head up your arse.
I'm well aware of the impact this site has on society, so there's no need for the little digs.
Look how big this place has grown and the number of young people who post here and it is going to get bigger and AH is the busiest forum on here.
I'm also well aware of the fact that AH is the busiest forum here.

The growing number of young people here is also something I have noticed.
Most of them are fresh from bebo and have already seen that the internet can be full of complete arseholes.
Anything too extreme is deleted almost instantly and it's not just because there may be kids here, but also because there are people in offices and colleges etc.

What you seem to be getting at here is that we just delete anything that can be seen as not safe for children.
We already have the rule that anything containing nudity or bad language is to be labelled as NSFW and all links are either checked by the mods or reported before we check them. If they contain porn, then they are deleted and the poster dealt with accordingly.
IF there was parity then we would not have to point this out and report posts or put up with these types of feedback threads.
I've only seen one single post referred to here, excluding the ones I pointed out.
Have you not seen how nasty things can turn in ah ?
Of course I have and I and the other mods deal with nasty crap every day.

You really want me to take the gloves of in AH or are you just looking for me to get my 3rd ban from there ?
I'm saying that if you want to take the piss out of someone you see as being misogynistic, then by all means go ahead, but do so within the rules.

Besides, I believe I gave you your third AH ban about a year ago.
The three strike rule is generally reserved for persistent trouble makers.
I should not have to go make a stand I should be able to report posts and expect the mods to take the action needed as should ever other poster on this site.

Do you delete and ban every time someone reports a post on any of the forums you moderate?

I don't know about you, but most of the time I look at the reported post, read the thread to see the context and then deal with it accordingly.
I'm not going to ban someone just because a post is reported.

There are almost 34,000 threads in the reported posts forum and you know well that there are many cranks who report posts because they dislike someone and are trying to get them banned.

Reporting a post will not always get you the desired result.

Myself and Sliverfish are far from shrinking voilets who are not used to lads being lads and sure this place sprung form online games and their communities but it's not that any more. Hell AH wasn't as bad as what it is in regards to the mysogyny going back 5 year hell 3 years ago.

It seem that with the % of female posters increasing on this site the boys have not like it and have tried to carve AH out as thier own and will say if you don't like it then don't post there and get back in the kitchen and while you are there try get the sand out of your vagina.

Well fúck that tbh.

Can you link to any other posts in AH where there's rampant misogny and "the boys" trying to keep AH as their little club ?
You are both quite capable of complaining about mysogny here, but you can just as easily post in AH and make generalistaions about men.
We're not going to stop you from doing that.

You want equality?
There it is.

Just for the record, equality between women and men, blacks and white, English and Irish etc. does not mean that we all have to tie our tongues and pretent there is a not a difference in attitude, lifestyle, decisions etc. It means that we can all see the differences in each other and respect those differences.
We can also make jokes about each other without the other person getting upset.

If you start a thread in AH about all men being beer swilling idiots, do not get upset when the thread is closed.
It won't be closd because AH is a men's club. It will be closed because it is an obvious troll.

The odd joke here and there about men will not be deleted or infracted. All you have to do is make sure the joke is in context and is not a troll post.

This whole thing reminds me of the British and Irish thing.
The British are supposed ot apologise for the sins of their fathers and the Irish are supposed to apologise for the sins of the IRA.

Neither is ever going to happen and men are not going to apologise for women being treated as second class citizens 100 years ago.

Just because white Americans gave reperations to black Americans doesn't mean we should all bow down and kiss the feet of every woman we encounter.

Political correctness will only get you so far.
Acting like civilised human beings who have all the rights that men have will get you a lot more respect.
Pulling out the misogyny card every time you see something you disagree with will end up with you being ignored. Try to keep it for the things that really matter and not some throw-away comment on an internet forum.

There are plenty of 'woman beats man' threads on AH and I don't see any of you (with the probable exception of thaed) bleating on about men's rights in those situations.

If you want equality, then act equal and stop picking the odd post that may be offensive to women.

Neither would be allowed in AH.

Here you are making it sound like you are defenseless against the onslaught of male posters.

You're able to come here and make a stand. What's stopping you from doing the same in AH?
Excellent post. Shows you've got a handle on things.

Why do you feel the need to paint yourself and all women as victims here ?

Matter of personal opinion and taste. The AH mods have stated that they review posts on a case per case basis and aren't going to make blanket bans on certain subjects.

Rape, Aids, death, pedophelia, homo midgets murdering a baby and eating it are all not funny among others. But having the smarts to use the risque subject matter in the proper context and being able to recognise an attempt at humour and not anything else is the issue
