value in the used car market

so im just about to buy my first car and im looking for some advice. im going to start off in something small like a 2002/2003 1.2 punto and im on a budget of between €2000 and €3000.. my question is do people think that the time to buy is december when dealers are trying to get rid of used cars to make way for new stock or should i wait till january or february and hope that dealers will be desperate to get their hands on any cash due to the poor predicted sales of new 09 cars?

Have you got your heart set on a Punto? I would say between now, and three weeks time, prices on that type of car won't drop dramatically. They're on there knee's now, the "it's now a year older" line can be used now, or after the new year.

no i dont really have my heart set on a punto but they seem nice enough for the price you pay. i only need it for a very limited amount of driving so im not too worried about the spec as long as its basically sound and wont break down on me. any suggestions for good value small cars welcome!

Well you could open your eye's to other alternatives like Opel Corsa's, Volkswagen Polo, Toyota Yaris etc.

You might have to go a bit older to get some of the cars for your budget.

They facelifted the Punto in 04, and the Polo in 02.

Something like this could be gotten from 2750-3000.

It's up the years but has high enough mileage. Have a look at a few Polo's etc. and see if you like them.

Punto's arent bad, my brother had one for a few months and it was a nice little car, better than my mates " always " in the garage Polo.

Mitsubishi Colt's are great litte yoke's to drive, really nippy and if you do have an accident, parts are easy to get and fit.The likes of VW, Fiat can be a pain in that situation.

I would go with Colt, Corolla or Focus myself.
