I know there have been more than enough "where to stay in Vegas" etc threads, so apologies if this has been covered and Please redirect me if so.

Not counting a $10K main event entry (assume satellite entry or other), what'd be a decent amount to budget for a WSOP "holiday".

Flights, hotels, food, booze (no hookers or blow unless I manage to really piss off the missus before then), tourney buyins (assuming no big scores, but the odd cash to numb the pain a bit) and a decent amount of winning a bit/not losing too much low stakes cash games.

I'm pretty sure you have zero interest in the answer to this.
Good op though,i've put off the 'big dance' for too long now and have vowed not to miss it this year.

to be fair, I didn't say whether it was a trip for 1 or 2, or whether she was only offering me a 1 way ticket or a return :D

    LOL, it really isn't.

I'd be interested in this too, I've been putting it off for too long too and I'd love to hear what people say.

    Yes and no.

The answer to this is still valuable, if I can break even on the pokers.

A better phrased OP would perhaps have been "what are the (non poker) expenses of a WSOP time Vegas holiday?"

Completely agree, I'd view it the same as any Poker playing, seperate BR's for each, life/holiday roll and a Poker roll that if I lost it all it wouldn't affect my life in any meaningful way (monetary speaking, whatever about being pissed off with myself, tilted, etc.) So to have the ability to go to Vegas, and even if the worst happens in the Poker you can still do everything that Vegas has to offer, if the Poker goes well then just do everything slightly better...

    IMO.

i was in vegas last week so here is a very rough guide of what youl need that does not include poker monies.
this is per person and is prob over the top but is easily enough to have a good time.

    food - $70-100 per day

acc - $50-150 per night (depending what your looking for really)

    drinking money $50-70 per day

clean entertainment e.g shows and attractions - $100 per day

other entertainment e.g coke and hookers - budget should be unlimited :p

traveling costs - you can ride the shuttle bus at a cost of $5 for 24 hours taxis do get pricey though. im not sure about flights caus i was aleady in the states when i went to vegas but shop around to get a good deal.

if you win at pokers just add a zero onto all the prices above and have a good time :)

    hope this helps

How long are you planning on going for? And how many going?

If you are planning a longish trip (2-4 weeks) and not going solo i would very much recommend renting a house off the strip and getting a hire car. Can find a lot of very resonable deals on this and it can work out a lot cheaper than hotel and taxis. Also can be cheaper because you can just head off and chill out easier and not end up hanging around the hotel bars and restaurants.

Pricey, over $5 for a bottle of corona as far as I can remember.

If you go to the clubs drink is very expensive. Can be $15 for a vodka and coke for example.

Drink at the tables before going out, works out an awful lot cheaper.

Students can do the same, stand by a 25c slot machine, whenever a waitress walks by put in 25c and order a drink, 25c drinks FTW.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,822 ✭✭✭tipp86

Jesus them vodka and cokes were strong in Pure.

Could have been the free drink at the tables wasnt as strong. But i never saw myself to get as drunk as quick well worth $15 a go imo.

You have to love vegas people just firing there credit cards over the bar in a nightclub for one drink.

No need to spend that much on food in Vegas everyday unless you want to.
Seems out of sync to be 'ridin' the bus for $5 a day but forking out upto $100 everyday on food.

I agree, spend about 20 on food a day.

Its a strange question OP. Are you planning to play side events? Id be happy with 20k if you were.

If I'm gonna go, I'm gonna rent a house for 3-4 weeks. A lot of them come with a car included. So you end up saving a fortune over what you'd pay to stay in a hotel (plus I'd go mad in a hotel for a month), and you get to cook there, have snacks/drinks in the fridge which again saves a fortune.

eating out each day in the likes of outback and a few nice places will be about 100$ p/p for the day.
When it comesto drinking, if you want to do it properly - go to a show or one of the busy bars (good atmosphere, esp in newyork newyork, duelling pianists) it will be the same as dublin drink prices with this rising in nightclubs.

If looking to have a few drinks at the tables its free (+tip) which may be a good idea before you head out. when i was there i went down for a few free drinks on the 1/2 table for an hour or so - 90 mins later got 6 free drinks . . . and was down 300 dollars! lol

If playing 1/2 give yourself a few buy-ins and then a few medium sized satelites . . . probably 1500 if all goes bad.

so for a week it should be about 400 dollars a day all included. This is presuming there are no poker winnings to speak of and for only one person

Breakfast lunch dinner, make sure and check out 'Ellis Island' casino 1 block behind The Flamingo. V old place but great food.

Breakfast/brunch especially-- all cooked to order, massive meals for $2-$7. The meal of the day(often steak diner) was around 4 dollars.

And with each meal you get a free $5 blackjack bet!!!! :)

Flights: there are lots of deals atm just google.

    Hotels: http://www.thehendonmob.com/simon_galloway/alternative_vegas

Food: Buffett to Wolfgang Puck, your in total control of that. My advice would be if you have a leak, Vegas is a food lovers paradise. All the best chefs in the world are in Vegas in some form or other, the wines pricey but you can't afford to not have it. anything from $20 to $400 ph

Tourney buy-ins: ive played $20 comps when skint, Vegas poker caters for every pocket. Dont forget they still play limit stud there.

Booze:Good. Booze is good in Vegas and very rarely paid for if you are employed by a forward thinking company! same as anywhere, a good drinker can sniff out value and vegas gives you all the clues. Do you need a scantily clad Japanese model to serve you Cocktails or will will a free beer ($1 tip) in the goald coast suit?

Shows:Worth blowing money on, won't see so many amazing shows in one confined space and pay big to go to the big shows, its worth it. Normally some big music show on, google but id say about $100 ph (tips to the host always work as do tips to the receptionist http://www.thetwentydollartrick.com/

Taxis are cheapish but you can end up taking 10 a day. The bus works fine as does the monorail. walking dependant on the heat. Tuc tuc's are yet to arrive.
Other entertainment? Well, it is Vegas ;)

Corona's my favourite beer by a long stretch, don't think i've ever had it in Ireland though.

OP, it really does depend on yourself. Eating 2 meals a day in nice restaurants will cost upwards of $100, whereas I did it the scabby way and spent about $8 max a day on food, drank at the tables and on the streets and blew the rest degenning.
