BMW "E" numbers - how to look them up?

    Morning all...

    I'm trying to use the VRT calculator to see how much this baby would cost me: http://www.autoquake.com/vehicle/inspid=8479

    However it's asking me for the following version numbers, and they're nowhere to be seen on the specification:

    - E21, E30, E36
    - E46
    - E90

    I've looked at the picture of the vehicle registration certificate, and I've even put the registration number into the free lookup on www.cartell.ie

    Any ideas on how I can look these up?

    Current model (which that is) is the E90 for the Saloon.

    Previous Saloon was an E46.

    BMW 3 Series:-
    E36 - 1991 to 1998

    On a side note if looking at a 2007 import then go for the 3 Series with Efficiency Dynamics, it was introduced in late 2007 on the E90 and means that it will have a lower VRT rate.

    Edit: Just checked the V5 form on the one in your link and it looks like it doesn't have ED, the Co2 rating is 153g per km. 320d with ED has 177bhp and Co2 rating of 131g per km.

    If you get a 08 with EfficientDynamics, then have a good look at the 325d or 325i - don't be put off by the fact that these models have 3.0 litre engines - the 325d manual is only €302 to tax and the 325d Auto and 325i(manual and Auto) are only €447, almost the same as the new rates for a 1.6 litre car under the engine size system.

    Also a 320d Auto is €302 to tax, as opposed to €156 for a manual.

    Still though, if you want to get the most out of owning a BMW, you need to try one of the 6 cylinder models i.e. 325i/d or bigger.

    The 320d is a great car, it's just the 6 cylinder models are that good bit better:)!
