I have a 5.1 sound system for gaming, but have to use headphones late a night. Can anyone recommend a good pair with surround sound.

    Cheers

    medusa 5.1

I've the home edition: comes with a wee amp but atm I'm not using it [lack of power sockets].

    Awesome sound from them.

Do you need any other equipment for headphones? I mean if you don't have s surround setup already?

Thanks, I'll give them a look. First reports say the sounds is excellent, but the build quality is poor.

I don't think so, as long as your sound card supports it (and the media you're playing is encoded for it) you should be fine.

No PS3/360 would support. I'm sure their sound cards are fairly good!

Haven't noticed a problem with the build so far myself.

Feel heavy to wear but not uncomfortable.

    I paid 80e on komplett.

On yer pc, if your mobo/soundcard supports 5.1 audio, the cables just plug into the coloured connectors on your pc.

there are also a ****-ton of extra cables so you can connect them to your console/tv either like with the red/blue audio connectors. [havent tried them with the 360 yet, not inclined to either]

    [edit]
there was a thread not too long ago with a poster asking about 5.1 headphones for a console. have a quick search for that also for alternative ones.

I found a thread and apparently you are not sure if your headphones will work with a console? Did I read that right?

Also whats the difference between yours and these? http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=329259

I hadn't tried connecting them to a console but I was digging out the headphones recently after getting a new pc and copped the bundle of cables that came with it and they should connect to the audio on a tv. I can't confirm but if you really want i'll hook them up to my 360 this evening and get back to you :p
    1 x headset cable - integrated - 3.9 m
    4 x audio cable - external

mine has an amp you can plug 2 sources into and switch between them.

Sorry to take up your time here, fair to say the cheaper ones have no advantages yo yours except for the mic then?

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you can only hook them up to a console by connecting the headphones to the tv then are you not then actually getting something far below 5.1?

No need to check-Just curious-they do seem a good price.

    mine has the mic also.

no idea if there are 'real' differences in the two/three versions. when I was looking for a set of headphones the home edition was recommended to me so thats the one I got.

if the console has front & rear audio connectors it should do the 5.1 via the headphones.

I'll see what the 360 is like this evening.

    no no & no.
    break far too easily.

thankfully this is a bit of a specialist subject for me and my esports :p
basically when it comes to headsets you want a robust pair that lasts. sennheiser usually make the best headsets imo. they are tough as well but a bit on the expensive side. i think that is okay though as if you are going to make the investment you dont wanna be half ar$ed about it. i had 2 pairs of medusa's (didnt learn my lesson the first time) one broke in a month, the other in a month and a half. one of my mates had a pair which lasted 3 months...
when i first bought them i got told by someone that i play with that "ppl that think medusas are brilliant have never had a proper headset".. of course i didnt listen to him at the time and was all "what do you know?" but little did i realise how right he was.

i use a pair of sennheiser HD 280's http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=335775 they are very good and have lasted me 2 years now. can take a beating as well as ive brought them to loads of LANs and events and such. top notch sound quality and they also have noise cancellation which means u can hear f-all around you while you have them on.

if they are too expensive then id recommend some of these-
    Sennheiser HD 555
    Sennheiser HD 485
    Razor Barracuda HD-1 5.1

dont get conned into "surround sound" headsets. its a novelty term tbh. in reality any headset will give you that sort of sound. what you want is a headset that is good quality sound and that lasts. its worth paying that extra 40eu or so as u will have the headset for so much longer and appreciate it more.

All the ones you have shown me are wired though, except the Barracuda.

Defeats the purpose, for me anyway. Also, are they all compatible with consoles like PS3/xBOX etc? What is the key feature I am looking for when reading the item description with regards Console compatiblilty? (Assuming for a moment it doesn't come right out and say "PS3 COMPATIBLE!!").

heh, opinions and all that but can't say I've had probs with the medusa.

I was looking at those a long time ago - and thanks for reminding me - first thing I do when credit card is in order is to **** up my credit card with a set of those.

ahhh i see, didnt realise that now. ill ask my mate who is a bit of a sound buff about a wireless one which is compatible with a console.

the connection on the first medusa had broke. the wire broke off the adaptor thingy thats near the main connectors.
with the second one the left speaker(s) stopped working for apparantly no reason. i blame that adaptor thingy for that one too as there was no reason whatsoever for it.
my mates one gave up the ghost after 3 months, not entirely sure what was wrong with his. think it was speaker failure again.
when it was working it was a pretty decent headset. when i got the HD 280 tho i was just like "wow". the afformentioned guy was right, i didnt know wat i was doing.

untill my mate gets back to me all i'll say is - if sennheiser have a wireless headset that is compatible with a console then get it :D
