Hi all is there any car enthusiasts that meet up? I have an old VW van that I am passionate about, I have seen a few VW old vans and bugs in Waterford and think it would be good if we met up and pooled our knowledge and that type of stuff!

    Hi lads

I was registered with that Vag.ie i got it on fix it friday on the ray darcy show but after a few posts i was no nearer people who liked older VWs in waterford,

I have a 92 VW Multivan that i brought in from Germany, its not a transporter its not a caravelle its not a california its a Multivan as i always say to the mechanics ha ha:D

Its a T4 and anybody ive talked to is almost disgusted when i tell them that its a t4 they think i cant like old vans with a t4 ha ha.

Im seriously considering bringing in another as im constantly asked to sell mine...

That's not really an old VW!:p

    What you need is a T2 or a T3....

You'll find the type2ireland website is still a great place to ask questions and get some info.. even with a T4....

    Good luck..

Yeah i know the crux of it! but if you saw my van youd think it was an 02 not a 92 it is 16 years old, i suppose the first after T3.

I tells ye you can see some beauties in Germany i was living there for a while and fell in love with these vehicles, Check out www.mobile.de and put it into english if you have any problems with german! unlike me:cool: theres good ones there for unreal prices plus if you take them for export as we would living in Ireland you get them for less the tax which is 19-21 percent think it was!

The only problem i have with the older ones is im sure i could expect more basic problems which would lead me to be in a garage more often!

My next thread will be to ask some mechanic out in the sticks to let me work for free of a sat if he teaches me a few bits!!!!!!

If i'd known then what i know now i would have went to Germany to get a van. I am obsessed with these T3's and i suppose it's all part of the joy when things break or need a bit of repairing.
I like that idea of helping out in a garage for some basic training:) i might look into it!!!

The problem here in Ireland is that there are very few T3's and multivans so they manage to go for a lot more than they would actually be worth, say in the UK or Germany.

I know your's is a T4, sorry Multivan:o but you could also check out

I drove across Africa in a 1300cc 1967 Beetle in 2002. Great fun if you like broken backs :)

I did a hell of a lot of work on the engine and braking system. I don't own one now but still have a bit of knowledge of their innards and I know a lad that has a couple from that era.
It'll take a while to get his details as I haven't seen him for a bit but I can put you in touch.

Fun cars to work with I have to say.

Sound so but this is a van? a VW mind you, I buy that mag VW Camper and bus ye get it in Book Centre and a few places, its english but in there there are so many people who just speacialise in bus´s and bugs "Kaifers" in German, to repair etc, seems to be none of these in Ireland,

You should try and send your story and pics to the mag im sure they would be interest in your pics and story!

I was in France there in September or October, wasnt quite the same mileage mind you but i did 7 straight hours off the boat!!!

I dont mind paying i just want someone who is good and professional to look after my van, I tried to buy a Haynes book but they stop at T3´s 1990

I know the old VW combi vans had the same engines as the Beetles. But your one is a lot newer than that so I probably can't help too much.

I'll try dig out yer mans details and get you in touch.

I got my hands on a T3/Type25 whatever you want to call them.
It's an 83 high top camper. Since i've had it it's all i focus on. So much effort to get it back to its former glory and i'm having a couple of problems with lights just to get the engineers report and then get insurance.
It's so frustrating to have this in the garden the past 3 months and not be able to drive it!!!

I'm not in Waterford but i sometimes do a bit of surfing in Tramore. I'm up the road in Dublin and like you i was looking for a (T3) club but not happening so i just surf all the VW websites to try and build on my knowledge.

Theres an 83 transporter think it has a high top for sale on carbuyersguide.ie theres full camper gear inside it but she looks dog rough needs a bit of work, mind you thats something i wouldnt mind having a go at i rang them and was going to be cheeky and make an offer of 1000 hes looking for 3500 i suppose theres only 120,000 kilometres on it but he never got back to me after my initial enquiry.

Dont know if you know the magazine VW camper and bus? but i buy it most months its class an english mag and something you would like if your doing work as it shows you step by step guides on repaird plus sites in england etc etc and some cool accessories you can buy, i have one here its call VOLKS WORLD Camper and Bus an essential for bus fans id say. go to justkampers.com and they have lots of extras parts etc. you should really buy a second van(parts) if you have the space specially if its a 83 i would if i had the space then again i found a left hand drive multivan in a scrapyard in Enniscorthy sadly most of the stuff was gone but i did manage to get the badges! the Multivan rides again!

That van on CBG.ie has been for sale for the past 4-5 months.
It's a pop top which has its good and bad points.
I reckon it's a bit over priced considering it needs a lot of work.
Now having said that, if if it was to sell for 2.5k and a thousand spent on repairs and get the thing ready to go for the spring, you'd have no problem selling it for 5,6 even 7k!!
I considered this but i don't have the space nor the funds right now.

I have bought the VW camper and bus mag and it is pretty cool, lots of info..

I'm currently setting up a website/blogspot to document the story of the van which should be interesting as it has had way too many setbacks...
I'll post up a link as soon it's all ready;)

Yeah I knew that vans been there for awhile as i do browse those sites quite alot, one good thing i could say about the pop top is the tax, if you can stand up in a bus its classed as a camper thats what ive been told i tried to say if i add sink etc to mine would that be okay and the VRT told me no you have to be able to stand up to be classed as a camper, i pay 590 tax a year on mine!!! doh!!!!

I would like to be online more often but at the moment i havent got so much time to devote to websites!!!! thats why I havent been on VAG so much as this site is dedicated to various topics and i can look at other things!

I tell ye i cant wait to get down to lara in Wicklow useta go camping there and this summer ill have a good bike on the back of the van!!! have to start enjoing the countryside!!!
