Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hey Guys,

I have the standard Eircom Netopia Wireless Router at the moment but the range is brutal. Im using my laptop and I have my 360 hooked up to it using the wireless adapter. Can anyone recommend a wireless router for me? Preferably something out of the Argos catalogue! I want to point the one out so my mother can get it for me for Christmas! Is ther anything special that I should be looking out for when I'm buying one? Will I be able to just plug it in and start using it straight away? Or will I need to configure it?

    Thanks in Advance!
    Marc.

is the router in the same room as the xbox or is it miles away? if it's far away u may need something else but i found Linksys routers to be very good. here's the one i have: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.aspx?sku=314078

there is a small bit of configuring at the start but nothin major. u can pick em up in most pc/electrical stores. don't see it on the argos website though

How far away from the router are you? It won't really matter what router you use if you're too far away, in the case of your xbox.

You could extend the range for your laptop if you bought an N1 capable wireless router, but you would have to buy a matching receiver as well

    Router - http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/6757340/Trail/searchtext%3EWIRELESS+ROUTER.htm

    Receiver - http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/0622426/c_1/1|cat_10391721|Wireless+networking|10391764/Trail/searchtext%3EWIRELESS.htm

I have that router and I find it very good for the price - solid connection, plenty of configuration options.

Its about 5 metres away through 2 walls. I'll have a look at the router but I was looking for something a bit cheaper tho!

    Anyone else have any suggestions?

You could probably make a diy wifi extender, with a metal bowl or something. Try googling 'parabolic cookware'. It wouldnt be pretty, but it would be cheap and it should work.

I have a Netgear DG834GT which I find excellent but dont have the Xbox connected via WiFi. I have two walls between my router and console so thought it better to go for a set of powerline adaptors which work very well.

Cheers man, ya i have to walls between mine as well. I might invest in a set of the powerline adapters. They seem pretty good!

I'd go with Bucks suggestion of powerlan too. I have these all over the house and they have never given me any trouble. They are dirt cheap too (under £40 for two).
This is what I use: http://svp.co.uk/product/sumvision_speed_plug_85mbps_ethernet_adapter_mte017

Wireless is still a flaky technology and is not suitable yet for gaming or streaming. I've had different wireless solutions and even put a parabolic adaptor on either end which increases the signal and it was still hit and miss.
