Thermostat Working?

    If you have a mulitmeter can you check for certain if an immersion thermostat is working or not.

    1) Turn off power. Disconnect the stat.
    2) Set the mulitmeter to measure resistance
    3) Turn the stat to its lowest setting and because the stat is at a higher temp the resistance should be very high, in other words open circuit.
    4) Turn the stat to its highest setting and the resistance should be very low, in other words closed circuit.
    5) You should hear a click as the stat switches. This switching should happen at the temperature that the stat is at.

    The stat should be "on" (conducting) when the stat is below the set point and "off" when the stat is above the set point.

    BTW you can buy spare immersion stats on their own, they are quick and easy to install.

    Is it best to remove it from immersion when doing this test or can u do it when it still connected. Does it matter if water in cylinder is hot or cold. Thanks
