Can anyone tell me what the standard minimum clearance height is for ESB cables that cross a public road? Is it 5.5 metres (18ft)?

    Thanks

I doubt you'll get a definitive answer on this one - you need to be more specific - are you talking about erecting a private cable across a public road - are you checking the clearance for a vehicle ??

from the wiring regulations, overhead conductors need to be 5.5metres minimum above ground however it then states that greater clearances may be required for roads

the wiring regulations are not intended to apply to ESB so the above may not be then applicable

On construction sites ESB require safety barriers at 4.2 metres thus preventing high machinery from passing below overhead conductors- it may be assumed that overhead conductors can sag to within this level under certain conditions
