Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Somebody has new manager syndrome!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

yeah, if you think about it, it does make sense to get rid of your manager, cos you know the next one will have (at least) a one-game honeymoon period.

Take this a step further - once the honeymoon period has worn off, you sack that manager, bring in a new one until their honeymoon period wears off, etc. Thus, a relatively unblemished season, with over a dozen managers having managed your club.

Bullard has put Fulham in front.

Fair play to Fulham, they are doing really well this season.

Keane's main critics pointed to the fact that he bought badly. I wonder do these wins with the players he bought suggest that he bought well, just couldn't get them to play for him...

A lot if rumours coming out of the club are to be believed.

The second suggestion is far worse from Keane's perspective..

Would you give him more time?

I would be inclined to think that he deserves the opportunity to buy 2 or 3 defensively minded players in January and then see how he gets on then..

I would yes, but not because of the results. Only because I'm sick of instability at the club.

Having said that it's a results based game and, apart from the Arsenal game, we haven't really had any for probably the last 2 months in the league.

Keane, Ince, maybe Hughes.... people used to say you had to play the game to be a good manager, looks like some of the best players are finding it difficult. Maybe playing, but not being very good is a better grounding for being a good manager, after a playing career of always wondering and analyising why you are not getting picked, not playing well, perhaps not expecting too much from your players.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,604 ✭✭✭herbieflowers

I dunno, Hughes proved himself at both Wales and Blackburn as a manager. I think the other examples you gave are slightly different.

I think the problem that Hughes, and the club in general, will have, is that no manager will be able to meet the expectations of the new owners, and perhaps even some of your own fans. The Top 4 will be very difficult for any team to penetrate, but if one team is to do it, I feel it will be Villa, and not City. That has taken years to put together for MON.

City will amass a collection of players, but I don't see them putting together a great team. Look at all the sh/te Chelsea picked up when they first got their lolly.

Chelsea essentially we're able to build on a great spine of Cudicini, Terry, and Lamps. City don't have that spine already there. Also, Chelsea we're already a Top 4 team, and based in a very fashionable part of London. Chuck in the wonga, and that can be attractive to alot of great players. Uefa Cup in the Eastlands I just don't see having the pulling power to bring in your Villas, Kakas, Arshavins, Buffons etc. And that's the problem. Without those players, City won't be able to close the massive gap that exists between the Big 4 and the rest.

As far as I can tell mediocre players make the best managers, good players make better no 2s.

The problems are actually nothing to do with the owners. It's the players who have an issue with him apparently.

Well then the players should be got rid of.

No player should be allowed to run a club.

In principal no player/players should be bigger than the club, however there can be cases where the manager's incompetencies force the hand of the players to act and voice their discontent. Different circumstances.

There is a theory that the players that didn't make it or had their career cut short by injury used all those years that would have been spent playing studying the game.. Makes sense too - without thinking about it too much anyway..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 88,972 ✭✭✭✭mike65

So then Villa drag themselves across the line. Adds a little more spice to the games tomorow.
