Hi guys, just want to pop a question this way regarding weight training.

How often would you do weights if you competed in MMA, I have been watching Ultimate Fighter on Setanta (And slowly getting hooked on it ;)) and I must say the physique on this guys are very impressive and was just wondering.

And what kind of weight routine would you lads follow? One dedicated to compound movements?

    Thanks :)

It really depends on the coach, the fighter, what point of their training cycle they are at and whole heap of other factors.

A lot of the "MMA" physique that you're talking about is down to wrestling.
Wrestlers (and swimmers) use muscles that a normal weight regime won't effect.
Try grappling day in - day out, and you'll pick it up fairly quickly.

The morning after a day of intensive grappling, you'll feel pains you've never known existed!:P

Cheers thanks for the replies, it was just that I was wonderin were do these guys get the time to fit in a weight training regime what with all the tactical and technical side of things aswell which obviously takes priority and still look very impressive.

Well these guys are all professional athletes, so finding the time for weight training is not a major issue.

Finding the right time (in terms of training cycles, recovery, nutrition etc) is what they worry about.
