My **** Life So Far by Frankie Boyle - decent enough read so far but hoping it'll get better when I get past his days as a child and teenager...

also reading the first Game of Thrones book - very good read but slightly annoying knowing what happens because of the TV Show... does really help with knowing who's who and such and such though... very good book so far and can't wait to get onto the next few now :)

and A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawkings - good stuff for the first half but it's taken a slight back seater in the past few days but I'll get through it

3 books at once - god that'd never have happened before I got a Kindle :o

Just after finishing High Fidelity by Nick Hornby, my favourite of his that I have read so far. I was not a big fan of How to be Good or A Long Way Down. Now I'm reading Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse, I'm only a chapter in but its excellent.

My brother bought the Hunger Games trilogy the other day so I think I'll read them when he's done, I watched the movie and it's been too long since I've got so into a movie like I did watching that, I want to see it again, so I'll read the books.

I recently read Dara O'Briain's book,Tickling The English. I have to say I was a bit disappointed as it should really be labelled as an English history book, 80% of it was just Dara talking about the history of the locations on his tour. Which I have to say was about as interesting as watching paint dry, at least for me anyway:P

Although there is the occasional bit of fascinating insight into the life of a stand up comic which is good but I just couldn't recommend it based on that.

So I've been considering buying an ereader lately. Do many of ye have them? I know a few people have kindles. Are they worth the money? Or which ones do people have that they'd recommend?

I haven't done much in the way of reading lately as I haven't really had time, I want to get back into it, but am in a bit of a rut with even trying to find a book to read recently.

Last thing I read was the book of julie and julia which was grand, but nothing ground breaking. NEED MORE BOOKS :(

I've a Kobo touch, not sure why I sided with that over the kindle, probably just how it looks! It's a great little thing, easily keeps track of what you're reading (tells you how much is left, has the option of a dictionary if you don't understand something, etc.). Also allows you to adjust the font size and formatting if you don't like it. It has a built in web browser too, so it's fairly handy in that aspect. I find most of my books online for free too, which is great in saving costs!

The Kobo supports every kind of ebook, but I usually go with .epub's because they're usually the best formatted over PDFs because they generally don't transfer well to eReaders.. ePubs and Mobis are the only formats that I like so far, but saying that I haven't really tried any other formats yet. If you do get one, send me a PM and I'll show you some places to get free books! :)

I ended up going with a kindle, purely because tesco is around the corner from me and I wanted it now.

I don't know what to get now!

I'm a sucker for dystopian books...

Music theory books, oh the joys!

I tried to read The Scarlett Letter, found it pretty tedious. Might come back to it at a later date. Gonna raid the bookcase over the next few weeks and get my read on summin fierce.

What do you think of this book? Honestly it has to be the biggest load of tripe I've ever read - the vocab is so limited. 'oh my' this 'oh my' that. And as for all the biting of her lip and rolling of her eyes - well she really has a small range of physical descriptions. The author never described Ana the 'heroine' but we learn that she doesn't wear make-up, has to borrow decent clothes, is v clumsy and yet manages to ensnare the multi millionaire pervert, heavily into S&M??? Huh? I read a review that said this so-called mummy porn book is being credited with saving many marriages, hello??? How about a bit of romance instead of turning your boudoir into a red hued bondage chamber. I am chuckling through all the so called steamy scenes - a turn on? Holy crap (to quote the book further) no. However i have downloaded the sequels to 50 shades of s***e and look forward to many more graphic scenes of boredom!

Ah I find them ok, and yeah I agree it's not realistic at all. I just want to keep reading them to actually find out what happens to Ana!

I heard 50 Shades of Grey was originally a Twilight fanfic, it got popular so the writer changed the characters names and got it published. It sounds fantastically awful!

Finished insurgent, loved it. Action packed with lots of twists and turns, it was unputdownable.

Just finished Battle Royale, bit controversional but it's a pretty interesting read

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,590 ✭✭✭Pigwidgeon

Finished the hunger games earlier. I really enjoyed it, although I'm not sure if the novelty of my kindle added to that or not!

The next few books I have lined up are catching the fire, fifty shades of grey and divergent. People have recommended them to me so I thought I'd give them a whirl and see how they are.

Will move onto the Hunger Games soon, watched the film a while ago and got a bit excited to read them

Picked up a book called "The Intern" in Easons the other day, I'm sure it's intended for audiences a year or two younger than me but I thought I would give it a go. Bad choice there. I'm about 30 pages in and can't stop cringing at the attempts of the author avoiding a lawsuit by using names like Jay-Me instead of Jay-Z...

I found a copy of Slaughterhouse 5 under my bed earlier on that I didn't know I had, so I read it this evening. Fudge, what a fantastic book. I've also just finished Never Let Me Go. I liked it but I'm not quite sure what all the fuss is about.

Yeah, it's a fantastic book, I'm doing my FYP next year and that's one of the books I picked.

In the last two days I've read Sense & Sensibility (the compulsion to italicise book titles still remains, damn you college!) and Pride & Prejudice. S&S was quite good, P&P was okay. It's a pity Northanger Abbey and Emma get less notice, I enjoyed them far more.

Now I'm reading The Colour Purple. I still suspect that Tom Cruise and Paul Newman will show up with pool cues at any moment.

K finish book 13 of the Wheel Of Time. Just have to wait for the last one to come out now :(

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,498 ✭✭✭Jamie Starr

The Colour Purple was really fantastic. Read Little Lord Fauntleroy and The Hound of The Baskervilles- going to read A Study In Scarlett next, chronological crime, I know. Thumbing through Khalil Gibran's The Prophet now and then too, prettiful wurdz abound.

I just finished reading divergent by veronica roth. It was great, I couldn't put it down once I started reading it, moving onto the second book in the series now.

  • Registered Users Posts: 713 ✭✭✭Cherry Blossom Girl

Re-read The Virgin Suicides today, I'd forgotten how much I love it. I finished The Heart is a Lonely Hunter the other day, I was a bit disappointed by it but I think I need to read it again. Or maybe it's not all it's cracked up to be. :p

I read Divergent yesterday. Although techincally today as I finished it at four this morning. Moved onto Insurgent today. Just finished it a few minutes ago. Great books. The ending of Insurgent is a bit M Knight Shyamalan, but otherwise made for a great read.

Tomorrow, I'm thinking of reading 1984.

I started looking for Alaska yesterday, just finished it there. Really good book, I know someone in here said they read it think it's where I got the name. I'd recommend it.

I have to say I adore my kindle. I got it like 3 weeks ago, and have read 6 books since. I'm fairly positive that's more than I've read in the last year, I'd gotten terrible with reading but I'm hooked again. Finally going to get around to starting the game of thrones series next I think.
