I'm not at home atm but definately my BT connection was acting up over the weekend.

Speedtests were showing connection speeds representative of 56k at times. Very annoying

Or you could just try calling them and being reasonable first? :)

My connection has been pretty **** all over the weekend and up to now too. The connection keeps dropping too, I get the limited or no connectivity message and clicking repair corrects it each time until next time it happens. I've been with BT a few years and never had this issue before.

Not 100% sure on this without knowing your fiull setup - but if you're getting limited or no connectivity popup warning within XP - this more points to a LAN issue between the router and your PC

not a lan issue, its routing and congestion problems

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,178 ✭✭✭ondafly

quick update - I've run a number of speedtests, and I'm getting strange results. Higher upload etc, which I've never had on the 3meg line

I'm in the Swords area on the 24mb so they say.

Had no connection at all from Friday through to Sunday afternoon. Might have to look elsewhere for BB in the new year.

I've been getting normal enough speed tests and browsing seems fine but downloading files is terribly slow. 25kbs is one case here.

well I'm throttled apparently ! so thats why I'm not getting the correct speeds. So much for my unlimited downloads ! I wouldn't mind, but the calculator is way off what I've actually downloaded this month.

I was on to them yesterday...got the standard whats your dl rate / noise & attenuation but nothing really to indicate that its a widespread problem. Awaiting the follow up :)

It seems faster today, Im going to monitor for a bit and if it gets worse again I will give them a ring.

Im new to here and am not all up with the pings and all that stuff but I moved from Eircom the middle of last month to BT and kept my Netopia box. I took their option 3 for the 24mg for the unlimited downloads.

All worked find for forst 10 days and since then the download speeds that were never less than 100-125kbp/s regardless of time of day or year has slowly reduced to 6-12kbp/s for the last 4/5 days and over the last week its killed the internet too with pages hanging or talking over 20 mins to open.

Any ideas why this is happening before I ring them, that its perfect for 2 weeks and then just slowly died when there was never a problem with Eircom.:(

Just started getting horrible DL speeds again now, so ringing BT support now . .

this is odd ! this morning I checked the usage calculator and it said I was being throttled ! in nice bold writing. I've come home now, powered on the PC, and did a speed test, and my connection is back to normal. I checked my usage calculator and it no longer says im throttled !

You are throttled if your up+down in the last 30days exceeds 100GB.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,258 ✭✭✭swingking

what's the url to find out if you are throttled or is there a special software that let's you know?

Anyone still having issues? I started noticing speed issues a couple days ago and now its at the point I can't connect to any sites because they time out. It takes 5 minutes for boards.ie to even open one page.

I am supposed to have an 8 meg connection - speed tests puts it at less than 1/4 of a single meg.
