Maybe I'm being dumb (Too much Christmas cheer and all that :D) but...
Should an individual wish to import a Category B Firearm under EC Directive 91/477/EEC, they will also be required to obtain an Article 7 Authority document from An Garda Síochána.

Fair enough, but does that apply to a Catagory B Firearm from the US?
If the individual is importing the firearm from outside the European Union, the valid firearms certificate alone will suffice to import and no further documentation will be required from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform."

Does that mean I don't need the Aritcle 7? Sorry if this has been asked before, but I'm stumped...

It does. Article 7 is an EU document, so you don't need one for non-EU imports.

However, importing from the US is a bit more complicated and you'd be best advised to read a post by Clare Gunner on that subject.

Use the search function to find it.

If I recall correctly there's a company that specialises in being the middleman for exports to this side of the Atlantic as a lot of dealers couldn't be bothered with the hassle. I don't recall the name, but I think Grizzly mentioned them before, so whenever he's along again, he might recall it.

I have a friend of mine in the states (Firearms dealer) that has agreed to ship me a H&K 93 as a one off favour.

Just thinking (as I do every now and then) but would it be easier to import from Canada as the canadian $ is weaker than the US $ also theyre not strangled by Homeland Security so it might be easier and cheaper????????

Not really, the US Dept of Homeland doesnt have much to do with export of arms .It is BATFE and US State dept that really deals with that.
All over looked by UN "policy"on small arms export.
Unless ROI is on a new terrorist sponsoring country list. And you are not trying to export US milspec equipment,NV /thermal vision technology,or other restricted firearm/components,
It isnt that hard a job to import from the US.
